Scotland Tornado

Hi Ian
I have been following your build and I am impressed with your workmanship and progress. Cant wait to see it painted.
Have you chosen a power plant yet, Whats on the menu?
Woody

Hi Ian, Trying not to be negative but is there an alternative to the angle trims that nearly all Tornados have, I feel it looks a bit industrial and too large an angle.
Also is the glass E marked
As for the noise dont try to muffle it to much.. Enjoy it !

Keep up the good work
Cheers

Woody,
My plan is IVA next spring/summer then get it painted after that. I haven’t thought too much about the engine yet, but it will be a 302 or 351 for sure. I was keen on the Coyote engine but I am advised that it will require changes to the rear chassis and bulkhead to accomodate, and I really dont want to go there!

Keith,
I hear what you say on the angle sections for the corners, but after seeing it on the car, for me I think it looks good anyway. Apart from Andy Green’s suggestion to provide lips over the end, the only other thing I can think of is using smaller width angle pieces.

The front and rear glass is E marked but the cockpit glass isn’t. However, I bought this from Tornado and they supply a letter of conformity which I am told is accepted by the IVA test stations.

Thanks
Ian

Agree with Keith, you don't want to muffle the sound too much! ;)

However, what is too much??? I would suggest though, that if 'excessive' cabin noise is not your intention, then the double glazed glass is a must. All your other sound-deadening measures in the bulkhead are for nought if you retain the single glazed glass.

Great build by the way.

Fitted headlining to the roof today and the spider pillers. Just need to trim edges back to finish off then refit the door seals to the headlining. Also fitted and wired up a ceiling courtesy light. Now on to the carpet then I can fit the doors back in which I have now painted satin black.

Looking good Ian, That spider covering looks like it follows the contours nicely.
You could surely be belting down the motorway next year.

But Carpet, ceiling light. sounds like all you need is a comfy chair and slippers and it's home from home. Where will the Labrador sit.

Make it sound agressive:
Interior fireproof protective covering , High intensity Interior light.

I bought some headlining from Martrim and some spray contact adhesive, made up a template then cut the headling to suit. It was actually quite an easy job compared to a lot of others on the car. The headlining molds well into the contours and looks pretty good when finished. Just have to make sure you keep your hands clean when you push out the air from it otherwise the glue gets everywhere. I have some black hidem banding which I'll probably fit on the join to the door seal.

Ian, looking at those slippers your feet must be tini wini.
You know what they say about a man with small feet !
You will need a booster seat for your 40 and a couple of leg extensions.

Did your mother never tell you that the reason for small feet is that during the gestation period, all mother natures efforts went into developing other organs.......

Carpet fitted.

Ian, very nice indeed, glad you decided against the zebra stripe option in pic no. 5:)
I just noticed that the stitching on the dash looks just like that on my Dax

Hi Ian

Great job, the build is looking fantastic.

Just wondering what seats you are using. I know there are some IVA rules regarding headrest size. Are they the new "IVA proof" version Tornado are making?

Jason

Thanks. I bought the seats from Tornado and they are IVA compliant provided they are bolted to the steel cross member rather than to the aluminium floor.

Thanks Ian, thought they were the Tornado ones. I didnt realise IVA compliance needed them to be mounted to steel cross pieces. Ive got my own Tornado kit on the way but its got the lowered floor so hopefully that will comply.
Jason

Looking good old chap.
The seats having headrests may make your head push slightly forward when wearing a crash helmet.
Some have seperate removable headrests for the IVA.

Looking good.
