Air Gap Between header and body

Is there a good rule about what the airgap should be between the exhaust headers and body work. I need to create space to get my body to fit around my SGT headers that are wide. I tried a set of headers from a real GT40 however because of the UN1 transmission my engine sit up an inch higher so while I got some better fit in some areas then the bundle above the bell housing was awful close to the upper body work.

Appreciate opinions what you may have done.

Hi David,

I had the same problem with my SGT, my Exhaust fabricator constructed the pipes without the body present, when the body was fitted I had to cut out some parts of the rear deck at the bottom of the window. I then engaged a Metalworker to build a heat shield over the cut out area and then insulated it from the underneath. It has been fine and no problems over the last 1500 miles. I have added pictures.

Regards,

Don.
