Thank you for the site!

I would like to thank everyone for putting together such a great resource for GT40s and for letting me be a new member. I have a new Superformance GT40 that is being completed and getting a few bugs ironed out by Merlin at Legendary Racecars. I have looked on this site for many years but just asked to join now that the car should be in my garage soon.

Blas…Merlin at Legendary Racecars already gave me your number. I’ll get in touch with you soon. Michael I did get a Mk2. I do have a question for others in the group, I did get the car painted in one of their movie paint schemes. I really like the #5 Holman Moody GT40. I did leave off the meatballs. Maybe an odd choice but I like it. The issue that I have is that the base coat and clear were painted then the red graphics by the headlights and diamond on the passenger side sprayed afterwards. By doing it this way there is a hard edge on the graphics. There also is a fair amount of dirt in the paint. My expectation was that they would paint the base color then the graphics and clear the paint entire panel. This is more durable and professional. A Superformance Cobra that I had previously was done this way. Does anyone else have any experience with this?
Other than the paint the car is amazing. I was able to take it for about a 12 mile drive when visiting Merlin’s shop. The drive quality, the fit of the body panels, interior, and overall feel of the car were outstanding! Just a couple bugs to work out.

Perhaps the red graphics were not ment to have a glossy finish from clear coat application? I'll look thru my misc paint QC photos and look for a clue on the order of paint application.

They do have a gloss finish. If it a single stage paint on the graphics it isn’t to big of a deal. If it’s two stage, contamination can get under the clear when it is done without the overspray on the edge. In the 90s and early 2000s when truck upfits from after market vendors were popular they would paint the graphics and apply the clear with about 1/4 inch outside of the graphic.
Thank you for looking for me!
