To answer your question Kevin, the original body shop did the repaint and graphics. They called me out for the second time saying the car was done and I had found two other body shops that gave estimates to paint the graphics. Wanting to be fair with the current body shop I showed them the lower of the two estimates $4K and demanded they take that off the bill and I would pick up the car. They refused saying it was only worth $1,500. I raised my voice and demanded more money be taken off at which point the owner got involved and offered to paint the graphics and have it completed in two weeks. I'm scheduled to pick up the car this Friday.

Retrieved the GT from the body shop late Friday afternoon and being a long weekend started final assembly early Saturday morning. Really enjoying this part of the build. The paint looks better in person and because it's a metallic it really pops in the direct sun light. I have learned a lot from this experience one is that in the 60's poly was used to describe metallic. You may laugh but I will admit I did not know that when I picked this color. You don't see the true color from the old PPG paint card. For those interested the car colors are PPG 22610 Emberglo Poly. PPG 8378 Wimbledon White for stripes and meatballs and PPG 9300 Black pin stripe around mearball.

I have posted some pictures I took at the house from the weekend.

You will have to drive it very early in the morning or late at night and not stop for fuel or you will never get to where you are going in a timely manner as everyone is going to want to stop you and look at it! It is gorgeous!

With Father’s Day weekend I had planned on installing the engine but thinking once I install the “Lump” it will be hard working around it. I worked on those little things like finishing the radiator fan shroud, cleaning all the body dust from inside the mono, mounting the rear spare tire hatch door hinges and latch. My next task is installing the fire suppression system which is this week’s plan.

Ann has always called this car my girlfriend so while making modifications to the fan shroud to accommodate the larger fans I mounted I had to change the metal work on the discharge side of the fans. I worked on this for a day to get it to fit while still using the existing metal. Once done I asked her to take a look, her first words were I had given my girlfriend boobs. Well I guess you can call it whatever you like but from my point of view it functions as intended by diverting the hot air up through the front air diffuser. Once the body clips are back on no one will know.

Maybe next weekend will be the motor install.
