Introduction

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, and in all likelihood will be ordering a SPF GT40 in the next month. I have the general idea of what I'm looking to achieve, but still need to hone the details. Likely will have a few questions over time, but will try to use the resources here to advise as much as possible before posting something new. For the moment, I'm largely interested in finding the color code for "Warwick Green" (see P/1057), and determining the best avenue to register the car once it is complete. I'm generally familiar with the registration options for these cars in Texas, however, I'm not a huge fan of registering/titling as a replica--wondering if there's a possible solution to avoid that while being able to register here. Looking forward to getting to know you all in the future.

Welcome to GT40's Ryan. There are a couple of Texas owners on here and I'm sure they will chime in soon. This forum has a lot of very talented builders on here so a very good resource. As you get your car and start your build, please start a build log and post lots of pictures.
Enjoy the forum !!!

Regards Brian

Welcome Ryan, think you'll be pleased with your SPF. I'm not familiar with Texas registration options, but keep in mind getting a 1960's year on your title makes selling your car to buyers in most other states more desirable. In WA we have a 'custom car' registration that allows a year of replication on the title, i.e. 1966.

Brian and Dave, thanks for the welcome.

I've searched for the threads here and on other forums re: registration options, but haven't found any directive on-point yet. While it does seem generally straight forward re: registering a SPF in Texas, it's less clear how to achieve a 1960's year on the title/registration without any "replica" reference. I almost wonder if its possible to title/register in another state with the desired verbiage (i.e. "1966 Ford GT40"), and then any transfer or re-registration in Texas would simply adopt the former.

Here are the Texas options on the SEMA site:

'Custom vehicle' is probably your best option. That should give you a 1960's title. The requirement 'altered from original design' is as simple as Wilwood brakes, A/C, steerimg rack, etc. WA state didn't seem to care about that when I titled my SPF. I would not go to the bother of registering in another state. My title does say 1966 Ford GT40, but also custom vehicle. There may be restrictions such as 'for car events', but I have never been stopped in 17 years. Driving your car to work everyday might be a problem under this registration. Hopefully some Texas owners can chime in for their experiences.
