GT40 CAD project

Information; None of this cad data or anything else posted is going to be forwarded, sold or anything.
If you want to do a similar thing you are free to try, if you are in possession of a substantial amount of fav prints feel free to contact me.

Thought i'd post a few screenshots from my cad model.
It has taken countless hours, i don't even want to know how many hours i have spent on it.
It is a work in progress so still bits and pieces to be added and minor adjustments to be made.

All of this is based on the prints available online, some prints around on this forum and the gt40 uncovered book.
And alot of pictures of varius original cars.

Those who know this chassis well might spot a few flaws and changes. Nothing drastic should deviate from the original.

Amazing work, I'm more impressed with how quick you get it done. Whatever the hours are that you have in it, I'm sure I would be about double to achieve the same thing.

I can't keep up with you that is for sure.

Great work, I tried to do this back in the day, but didn't have the time, or skills, Having built several chassis, looks familiar , only comment some radius should be larger, great work, have you used any original drawings ? thanks John

Thanks

Most of this is based on the prints available and a couple of handfulls which aren't available online.
Could be that some radius'es is off.
The bits i dont have prints for is based on photos, measurements etc.

I have done alot more to this model lately, it is still a work in progress and will be for a couple of months more (atleast)

Wow! Incredible work. I have been working through the drawings off grabcad, many hours spent on each part, but I’m short of so many drawings, it has come to a halt. Well done on how far you have got.
I’m using solidworks, what package are you using?

Thanks, it has taken countless hours to get to this point. It has been drawn in the same software as you use, the body was modified in 3dsmax. At one point you will get to the point where you have to fill in voids, look at pictures and try to dig out information. There was also a few prints in the gt40 uncovered book that was released some time ago.

The book does look good, I was struggling to justify the £250 at the time and now it is £1000, I’m kicking myself. I keep looking out for plans for sale but I don’t want to get stung for an incomplete set, not that I’m expecting all of the drawings, but I want more than I have. Haha.
I drew the body some 20+ years ago on a package called Alias when I was studying car design.
Good luck in the project, I hope with a few more late nights, I might get close to how incredible yours looks.

Definitively not worth 1000 Sterling if you buy it only for the prints.

You probably wont find a complete set of prints that someone wants to part with. Almost everyone is restricted by some deal or gentlemans agreement not to forward or share.

Huge respect Ole. Very impressiv, espacially due to the lack of drawings.

Thanks @oldschooldasy
Yeah the lack of drawings will always be an issue. Lately I have been able to view a few more of the prints which is not "open to public" and honestly, they are in such a bad condition that they hardly give any more decent information that is usable.
When stuff is put together there are quite a few details that dont add up dimensionwise, not sure if it is due to revisions, value roundoff or just a glitch from back in the days...
I have to update alot of minor details that i have gotten drawings for lately before i start on some tooling...

On the other hand i am a bit uncertain how many drawings they actually made for the roof structure...

Been busy on other stuff (i guess its called life) lately. Finished the mk1 rear subframe with oil cooler du ting, just some small brackets for the coolers left.

Also had a go at the mk2 version. Based on the assumptions that the lower profiles are horizontal and the pivot points are on the same point as on mk1. Alot of differences in the original cars so hard to tell what is right or wrong.

So, had an idea for quite some time and finally had a go at a rough draft it.

Transaxles arent exactly getting easier to come by or cheaper to purchase.
Neither does it help that exchange rates etc not exactly points in my direction.

So i have been looking into casting a new housing and reusing some available internals;
