I bought a Lightning last year and absolutely love it! I went from a 2019 F-250 with the 6.7 diesel to this truck, I was worried I wouldn't like it as much, I was also worried about towing a trailer. The lightning out tows that diesel any day and more surprisingly, it out stops it with a heavy trailer. I'm not saying there aren't limitations, as the mileage range is significantly reduced with a trailer. However I don't plan to tow anything more than 100 miles or so which makes it work for me. I haven't towed any large profile trailers with the lightning such as a camper, so I don't know how it would do in wind with a trailer like that.

The thing I like the most about the lightning is the acceleration! It funny to see the Corvette drivers looking at me dumbfounded as I fly past them in a 7,000# pickup truck:cool:

Other big plus is it is cheaper to fill up, for 340-mile range it is around $12 the diesels range was around 360ish if i remember right and around $90 to fill up.
"...the diesels range was around 360ish..." Really? My Dodge 3500 has a range of 620 miles.

The one I had was 26 gallon tank. All my driving was city driving It I’m proved to just over 400 on the highway with no trailer if I recall correctly.

I had a an 04 f350 with the 6.0 and a 44 gallon tank. That one would go around 800 miles on a tank.

Could you advise price for the Lightning compared to a petrol or diesel similar spec vehicle at the time of your purchase? Reason I ask is over here in the U.K. to get a battery car as opposed to internal combustion you are probably looking at at least a 50% uplift in price from ICE to battery. Your battery range is impressive.
And a lot of the U.K. electric cars are not good on range…example Nissan Leaf real life is 150 ish to 170 ish miles.

My mum lives 80 miles away and no charge facility in her mews so this car is not good for me…..yet

I accept at some stage they will get more suitable range in the smaller U.K. type cars but so far I cannot find anything suitable without the 50 to 100% uplift in price.
Example VW ID4 life…£39930 the ID3 is same price VW Golf tsi 1.5 life £24695 it would take me a longtime to recoup £15k by electric on home charging.

By then perhaps the new hydrogen ICE will be making inroads to car sales.

Just interested to see what American real pricing is

Good Morning Ian, (probably afternoon on that side of the pond)

I was thinking the difference between the ICE and EV were around $10-15K, but I figured I would build and price them as I was curious as well.

This should be an apples to apples comparison. I'm selecting the exact same trim packages (502A) without any other modifications and the same colors. Im not sure about other OEMs, but this will give you an idea about Ford.

First up is the ICE price $65,950

Surprisingly the same trim Package (511A for Lightning only addition was extended range battery) is only 7K more with the incentives ($73,030). Plus, the US government is still offering a $7500 tax credit for buying EVs that meet certain criteria for where the car is made and where the batteries are sourced from.

Pay no attention to the monthly payments, those were lease calculations I didn't enter information on.

Thanks Sean

Interesting reading
The ICE to electric difference appears a lot less in USA than it is on this side of the pond which would help ease me int electric.

Perhaps in a couple of years the UK pricing will get closer

Thanks again

Ian
