World Products Man O War Blocks

I was checking out a recent article in MM&FF that covered the new Man O War blocks from World Products. They offer crate motors that are pretty good, but the blocks really seem well done. The only negative thing is that they are heavy, but you can get some serious displacement in a small package:

8.2" deck height can go to 375 inches and the 9.5" can go to 470 inches. I've never seen a 8.2" SB go that high, pretty neat. They also offer 8.7" and 9.2" heights.

Also in the same mag is an article on a motor build up with a Ford Racing 8.2" deck block. A very nice build with good components yielded 357 inch motor that make a peak power figure of 751hp at 8400 RPM, while reaching 431hp at 5000 RPM and heading up from there. Used a Super Victor Intake and a Quick Fuel Technology 1050 CFM carb on the motor. I sort of doubt a Weber system would handle this motor!

Hi Ron,

I'm not hanging up the Webers just yet! I do like the idea of big cubes on the short block. Lower deck height really helps with packaging and rear visability (there's an oxymoron for you!). Gotta go buy the magazine now...

Cheers

Ron,

I'd be more interested in the amount of bore you can get with them. That much stoke and high RPM seem counter intuitive to me (high piston speeds); whereas, bore is kind of free displacement without much downside. The Dart will go to 4.185 without ultrasound checking; did they give a max bore size? This is somewhat indicative of how true the bore is.

Regards,
Lynn

Lynn, they did, I think it was 4.200" but I am not near the article right now. I agree with you on the piston speed, but things have also changed considerably what what is acceptable and not acceptable in piston speeds. There are some high reving long stroke engines running around these days, and, as long as they don't fly apart I suppose it is okay. The 357 they built had a reasonably long stroke and seems good with the components they selected.

Hi Ron,

I plan to order the 455 HP 375 crate motor when my RF shows up around Christmas (I'd do it now but there is a 24 month warranty I want to take advantage of).

As you probably know the 375" capable "C" blocks require 351W pans and distributor, but this does not appear to be a problem since my RF will have Motec FI/coil packs and the Armando 401 pan is listed as 302/351.

According to World (who does not release cam specs or dyno sheets), peak HP is in the 5800 RPM range for this motor (which is "OK" for the 6 speed Audi I've ordered from RF).

What I don't know is how this will be affected by the FI manifold (the crate motor ships with a Victor single plane intake). Some info not listed in the catalog/slick sheet is that it does infact have forged pistons, standard location exh. ports, and comes in any color you want as long as it's (gulp) yellow. Oh, and no alloy version until at least mid 2006.

Anyone interested in more info can call up Clarence at World (631-737-0372 EXT 107).

How many salad dinners = 60 lbs? (I'm of marginal GT40 physique, but I have fit into Hershals car, and gotten out in one piece)

Here's some additional info:

Subject: Question regarding World PN 102041

Hello,

I am looking to purchase a new engine for my GT-40 and am considering your World Class 375 CID 455 HP/445 lb-ft PN 102041. I had a few questions:

Can you send me a .pdf or scan of a dyno sheet for one of these engines? I would like to see how well it matches up to my six speed transaxle’s gearset (which is not practical to change).

Can you let me know the cam specs including LCA as I will be using an 8 bbl direct port fuel injection system with a F1 motec ECU and would like to understand what kind of idle speed/quality to expect.

Can you let me know if you plan to offer this product in an alloy block configuration either this year or early Q1 2006?

Thanks for you help,

I picked up a copy of PHR at the airport on friday and read a good assembly article about the 460"SBF. The photos gave a good idea to the differences in blocks and where the extra 60lbs comes from.

I also liked the idea of a 375" motor with a 24K mile warrantee but am concerned about its RPM limit. Max power is at 5800 but what is the max continuous RPM? That is a short rod and hefty pistons to be throwing around.

I understand that the World motors also have a favorible horespower as compared to advertised. Does anyone have any experience running one of their motors?
