Superlite Le Mans

Rob see post #36...Barchettas have a minimal windscreen normally... and there are two variants as I mentioned....
Unfortunately for some,I dont plan on trying to appease every State in the Union with different options....much like many European Supercars are not truly street legal in the USA...BUT they still seem to appear here and there...and get driven on the public highways...even the Ariel Atom is not compliant in many States but they still get manufactured and purchased by the guys that cant live without them...
Where there is a will there is a way I suppose...

[Windhsield]....where there is a will there is a way I suppose...

I think anyone with the skills and resources to build one of these jewels can fabricate or obtain a windscreen that satisfies the DMV and yet mysteriously disappears shortly after the car is registered, perhaps occasionally re-appearing briefly after each "no windscreen" ticket is issued. Perhaps if someone makes a particularly nice one we could all pass it around as needed.

Plexiglass windows aren't technically permitted in some states, but it's always too hot the day of inspection to run with the windows in.

Any thoughts and dont say anything about a roof.....close to production now..

Doors optional, but with subtle styling features to serve as toe and hand holds for jumping in? Seat back and partial bottom upholstery with a nap that is slippery in the "getting in" direction only?

I don't know about other states but Utah, unfortunately, requires a windscreen.

Read that carefully.

My T70 Spyder gets by in NC because of the definition of windscreen and that is a barrier between you and the "wind". It need not have a frame. Furthermore, some DMVs define windshield and windscreen completely differently.

Nice looking car. I like it better than the SLC.

For those that are interested, why is a screen needed at all? I see ariel atoms and rcr slrs running around with no screens so why would this car slc need a screen to be legal?

From that article:

"The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner features electrochromic windows which replace the pull down window shades on existing aircraft. NASA is looking into using electrochromics to manage the thermal environment experienced by the newly developed Orion and Altair space vehicles.

Smart glass has been used in some small-production cars. The Ferrari 575 M Superamerica had an electrochromic roof as standard, and the Maybach has a PDLC roof as option. Some Polyvision Privacy Glass has been applied in the Maybach 62 car for privacy protection purposes."
Fran -- don't you want it to sell a feature shared by only the Boeing Dreamliner, Superamerica and Maybach?

Oh wait, we're talking about roofs again.....

In Utah a frame is not specified but a working wiper is required.

In Utah a frame is not specified but a working wiper is required.

"5) (a) (i) The windshield on a motor vehicle shall be equipped with a device for cleaning rain, snow, or other moisture from the windshield.
(ii) The device shall be constructed to be operated by the operator of the motor vehicle.
(b) A windshield wiper on a motor vehicle shall be maintained in good working order."
They specify the windshield as being equipped with the wiper, not the vehicle. So if the vehicle need not have a windshield, then it need not have a wiper. Right?

Even so, they require a "device". A hand-held squeegee is a device.

So, all you need is this:17-1950.jpg and this: Squeegee-Back.jpg

Thats how I read it too Alan..

Dont forget that there is an option to have the short windscreen per the earlier yellow car proto....surely this could then be removed at the owners discretion...

Or this...if a helmet is required....quite a neat design actually and a real product...what will they think of next?

The Texas Transportation Code is similar. Chapter 547 which lists all the mandatory equipment doesn't specifically state that a windshield is required, but wipers are.

Sec. 547.603 WINDSHIELD WIPERS REQUIRED. A motor vehicle
shall be equipped with a device that is operated or controlled by
the operator of the vehicle and that cleans moisture from the
windshield. The device shall be maintained in good working
condition.

In TX, our Transportation Code is always subject to "interpretation" :)
