RCR's Next car should be.....

Jennifer, I ahve a friend that has a T300 for sale. I believe a few years ago he was asking $120K for it. I have moulds to make the air scoop/engine cover... that's a start for you!

Here is a pity....I made molds for the air scoop too! I had silly visions of adding a scoop to the Europa engine lid that I was driving at the time, along the lines for some Lotus 47s that had a snorkel in the engine lid. I was going to do something similar, but I preferred the vertical inlet of the Lola...Never got around to doing it, but kept the molds for years...found that they came up missing after a move in the early 90s...along with a spare Weber 45DCOE side-draft setup complete with linkages and intake manifold for the R16 head for the Europa. We had a lot of stuff to move in a short time and it appeared to me that one of the 'helpers' helped themselves..I never did find out who stole the stuff....

Don't know what I would do with the scoop/cover these days...I'm driving a Corvette C5 and contemplating how to ventilate the hood, and add flares for much needed wider wheels. Hubby and I have sights set on RCRP4 when the economy improves and we start making some real income again...We build high end audio stuff, and our industry in general has taken a real beating, and we are no exception. We wanted to order the P4 for delivery this year, but sadly, no way these days...

Jennifer,
Give the folks at Stinger Fiberglass a call, they may have some C5R stuff laying around. If not, Artie can help. Tel: 321-258-8160

Jennifer, I had three Europas in the '70's. Two for spares to back up the one I raced in SCCA. I got to drive a 47 from Boston to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a guy that moving there. after a great trip, he paid me & flew me home. I wonder where that car is now? I wish now I kept the Europa for vintage racing, but thinking of all the things to keep that car going ends that idea!

If visions of that 47 won't leave your mind, there are always the guys at Banks Europa in the UK, ....still building NEW Europa variants with better chassis and suspensions.

I always felt the 47 was the way the 46 and 54 [ street versions with Renault power] should have been offered...In the day there were no EPA or DOT restrictions and Cosworth powered street car was not out of the question. Later the TC Europa with 4 or 5 speed, came closer, but with limited access to the Weber heads in the USA, and heavier revised body, it fell short of the mark by quite a ways, even if you did the wide wheels, revised suspension, and flares. The 47 was indeed the way the Europa should have remained, and been marketed. I still pine for a 47, but when the economy improves, I will temper those pangs for the past with an RCR.

Just found some interesting rim sections for my Speedline 18 inch rims on the rear of my C5 Vette....replacement sections for intneded for Ferrari F-40 fitment, alternate size 18 inchers, inner sections, aparently last 2 spares in the USA... I can add the 2 inches or so I want to my rears without cut and welding in a hoop. I'll finally have almost 12 inches bead to bead, for the wider tires I want to run.

The importer tells me Speedline has given up manufacturing the 3 piece modular wheels.

I wonder where Fran is buying rim sections for his 'in house' wheel centers? I suppose something like that is 'next' for me, a Lola T-330 style hub center and/or the Ferrari center like Fran is already making, but with modern size, 3 piece construction for contempary tires suitable for the Vette.

When we do the RCR P4, wheels and tires will be a big issue, I will want the right look both for track day setup with proper slicks and internediates from G-Y or Hoosier, and also a good street setup on wide DOT dummies. This will mean 15 inch diameter for the race tres, and 17 and/or 18s for the street...

Back in the 70s I would collect the 3/4 used up Goodyear slicks from around the pits, and use them on my Lotus on the street...Sure, sometimes the remaining life would be measured in fractions of an hour, but it was really fun to be such a Pirate and break all the rules with G-19s on the street. Ahh, to be that young again! Sure pulled some great Gs for the day!..I could out corner ANYTHING else on the street in our town :D!

I'm just starting to learn about the G12. I believe I read that 33 were made. They had 2000 cc Cosworth engines and weighed ~1300 lbs. There's a company in England called DARE who made or makes replicas with modern Ford engines, Both I4s and V6s. I believe that a motorcycle derived drivetrain might work out well.

We have a fellow here locally that has an original Ginetta (restored) and races it in Vintage. Unfortunately the engine let go (around 9k RPM) and left the oil filter and side of the block laying on the track.. Somewhere I have pictures of the car.. Incredibly fast for its size...

Apologies in advance for bringing this thread back from the dead, AND...

Uh, Fran could open a whole new market if he were to offer a different kind of race car replica.

Just saying...
