Porsche 962 CFK Chassis, information wanted

Hey

i dig a bit into 962 History. There where a few chassis build by Thompson, They where made of CFk instead of aluminum. Difficult to find pics and information about it. Would like to see how they have been designed. Any detailed information and pics are very welcome

THanks

Tom,
I believe the only full CF tub was done by Vern Shuppan Racing (962-139).
There were a couple of cars that John Thompson did for Brun with aluminum honeycomb/CF chassis in 1989-1990. I have seen pic's of these in a book somewhere (not mine) but I can't remember the title.

I'm more of a 917 kinda guy!

Thanks Molleur

From what i read, Thompson has made some chassis in aluminium honeycomb, some combined with CFK and some full cfk ( THink for brune and or kremer)

Think this is one of the full carbon ones(962-138) ( rebuilt by Vern Schuppan, but i don´t think he built the chassis)

Tom, from Supercars.net:
In 1984 driver Vern Schuppan became interested in developing a carbon-fiber tub for the 962 racing series. The British-based Team Schuppan worked directly with the factory.
Schuppan recalls: “We contracted the UK company 'Advanced Composite Technology' to develop the tub and tool up to produce it, building an initial batch of five. Reynard subsequently took this over and built another five for our 962CR road car project, with a total order of 25 such chassis.
Porsche approved the carbon composite tub design and carried out a number of tests on the first unit completed. There were a number of companies at that time constructing replacement tubs for 962s, some using carbon panels riveted to aluminium and some partly in aluminium honeycomb. Ours was the only full carbon tub.

Thanks Molleur

That cleared the Shuppan thing. So what about that Thompson aluminium honeycomb and combined carbon tub ?

Well Tom, just to confuse:
Among the most popular privately-built 962s was that from Kremer Racing, termed the 962CK6, which did away with the original aluminium sheet tub of the original Porsche chassis, replacing it instead with a carbon fibre tub. 11 total were built, campaigned by Kremer and other teams. John Thompson designed a chassis for Brun Motorsport, eight of which were built and helped the team take second in the World Sportscar Championship in 1987. Thompson would later build two chassis for Obermaier Racing. Richard Lloyd Racing's GTI Engineering would turn to Peter Stevens and Nigel Stroud to develop four 962C GTis, which featured entirely revised aero and aluminium honeycomb rather than sheet tubs. Former factory Porsche driver Vern Schuppan would also build five new chassis, some known as TS962s.
