New to the forums, from the land of igloos.

Hello fellow enthusiasts and builders. I have lingered around the forums on and off for the better part of a decade and recently made an account. I have read a lot about building a GT40 but in a lot of posts say that to do it in Canada is quite the process and extremely difficult.

So that’s where I’m at currently. Waiting to hear back from certain government “officials”. But whenever I do figure out the route I will be doing it. I know you’re not able to buy a “kit”. But you can buy certain parts. To my knowledge it seems the only parts you can’t buy with the “kit” is suspension components which really isn’t the end of the world. Most kits seem to have aluminum control arms with heim joints.

So in the mean time I am slowly picking up some parts. I’m looking for a reasonable transaxle. I’ve heard some people use a Porsche 944 transaxle, and I’m researching what it takes to mate it to a 351W.

If I ever get any cool things tot are pictures of I will be glad to share.

Cheers!
Josh

Welcome to GT40S Josh. You have come to the right place to ask questions for sure. There are a couple of people in Canada I can think of that might be able to help you make educated decisions. More than Likely Ian, and Ken will chime in shortly. When you are ready to start your journey , please start a build thread.

Regards Brian

Welcome to GT40s, Josh!
Re: 944 transaxle
To my knowledge, the input shaft on the 944, 924 and 928 transaxles does not have a pilot bearing surface and will need to be machined to accommodate.. There may be other nuances to address with the clutch release mechanism. I used to race the 924/944 cars and their transmissions were never a failure point - but admittedly they were only subject to maybe 300hp.
Enjoy the forums and keep us posted on your project!

I have seen a CAV for sale here in B.C. and from what I understand you need to buy your major parts from a Canadian company. Nevada classic has a SPF Canada kit, same parts it's just how they get here.

I have also seen that. It is something I am considering. There’s a couple kit manufacturers that I have my eye on. Just reading up on what the pros and cons of them are and trying to pick the “best” one.
