Limoncello

Paolo,
If you are coming to the Le Mans Cassic 2010 by car I hope to go as well and we could possibly do a deal on the best alcohol that you reccomend. I'm reasonably sure that it cannot be bought here in the UK.
I hope to make a couple of trips to Italy before then and travelling by air so I may possibly be arriving in Malpensa or Linate.
I'll try and let you know well in advance.

Well , a total success by all accounts. I sent a bottle to an American friend who runs a winery in Lurgashall down in deepest Sussex. He had three strong ones before dinner last night and then after dinner saw the rest of it off. Apparently he cant remember having dinner though. I made 5 litres on the last (first ever) batch and its down to 1.5 litres already so I best get started again. This one was Vodka based and took 3 litres of Vodka and about 60 lemons. I must say it is really good.

I tried some at an Italian restaurant last week and found it far too sweet for my taste. It did have a kick like a mule though.
What is the sweetness level in your brew like David?

Well, it is definitely quite sweet as there is copious amounts of sugar in the making of it. I've been told that this sugar also improves (if that is that the right word?) the alcohol content as well - as if it needs it !! The worry to me is that the sweetness conceals the fact it is so potent and not just a fruity drink - I've seen that before in Sao Paolo, Brazil on Caipirinhas with Hosties on my crew downing two or three drinks at the hotel bar before going out to dinner and not making it as far as the restaurant before their world tilts.
Here at home, you are definitely staying overnight if we start making Caipirinhas and maybe the Limoncello as well now. Your car keys will be surrendered into the safe before the first Caipirinha/Limocello.....

Ha I imagine the trick with the Hosties was to keep their world tilted just enough to be amorous without passing out too soon?:heart:

Pete,
It was completely the opposite. The sooner they were 'Hors de combat' and returned to their rooms by their CSD to sleep it off the better it was for the rest. Have you seen the average BA hostie? Many of them can hardly fit between the aisles and should have been put out to grass a long time since. I travelled in a 777 recently in the posh seats and the floor on the 777 is probably fibrelam. I swear my seat nearly fell down into the cargo hold when a couple of them came past (to claim there 1st class lunch). When you compare them with the Virgin girls they are incredibly awful and so full of attitude and self importance and belief. If I fly to Singapore or HK, I will try and go Cathay or Singapore rather than BA.

Hahahha It has been a long time since I have flown B.A. but from memory you are right. Certainly Branston seems to have a better recruiting program. I flew Singapore Airlines to the GP and some of their Hosties were drop dead gorgeous.

The Singapore girls are marvellous and elegant. Always a pleasure to fly Singapore Airlines. But the Emirates hostesses are very beautiful also.
Really doesn't matter, does it, when there's a "Look But Don't Touch" Marital Policy in place.
Sigh,

Rick,
Yes.
Look - I was responsible for getting flights out safely and on time. By them not coming out to the restaurant etc they would nearly always be there in the morning when it came to pick up, and sober as well.
The qualities of Singapore and Cathay girls are well known. Married and accompanied ex pat flight deck used to have about a 40% divorce rate.
Dalton,
Sure, it's 'Look don't Touch' for the passengers. What do they expect for their ticket ?

David, If there was a look and touch airline I predict it would break all ticket sales records and do it without having to fly anywhere!

I would have to agree with you David. In the old days, when one was in some foreign hellhole and boarded the BA flight home, being greeted by the friendly cabin crew on boarding was like being back in England already. Now a lot of them seem to be grumpy foreigners and, perhaps even worse, male. The current Virgin cabin crews are what BA crews used to be like.

As a post script to the above, I would mention that I have started the limoncello process myself as a result of this thread. Only done the 1 litre of strong Vodka and the zesting so far - so not the industrial quantities that David seems to be producing! Also I don't regard Americans as foreigners, or anyone else in the world who is friendly and speaks English for that matter.

OK Paolo
Get in your car and bring over the alcohol to England or maybe bring some to Le Mans
and I'll get it from there. However - the Vodka - limoncello is going down very well - as well.

Guess I'm lucky! My Italian associate frequently makes gallons at a time and I am honored to assist him in disposing of it.
