Like the title says, I'm a mustang autocrosser that's been trending towards owning a GT40. I've had a lifelong passion for Fords and all the cars Shelby touched including the Viper, but the GT40 pushes all the right buttons.
Forum threads are worthless without pics, so here meet my therapist.
She's a 1988 Mustang, coyote swapped with full Maximum Motorsports suspension. All of the suspension geometry has been changed, and the car rides and handles like a proper race car. It has a tubular K member and a arms. Koni single adjustable shocks/struts. A torque arm in the rear with adjustable swaybar. No rubber anywhere, all pivots are heim or poly. TKO600 transmission and 3.55 gears, so with the coyote I can cruise at 80mph while getting 22mpg.
It's in the CAM-T class (classic american muscle - traditional 1959-1989) with the only rules being wide open modifications, a minimum 200tw tire, a finished interior, and minimum of 3000lbs. Locally the car does very well, usually placing top 30% in raw time. Locally I typically run it in the "run what ya brung" open class, and with around 15-20 entries it usually places 1st or 2nd.
Anyway, I'm dedicated to owing a GT40 now, so I'll be on here lurking and soaking up info.
