GT40 Australia Chassis #64

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Got the cars out of the shed for a few hours today.
Gave the shed a good sweep and seeing the cars out in the sunlight
was good for motivation as I was feeling like the cars are getting no where.

Here's a pic of a mate practising his Lemans starts. I think he's got to work on his technique.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Hi Dave

Both cars look great. I can't beleive you think the cars are going no where. From my talska dn readign the forum there are lots of builders who takes literally years to get to your stage. You have taken less than 6 months and seem to have 2 cars on the go. Keep up the great work and the pics. The black wheels look awesome.

Regards

jack

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Thanks for the kind comments Jack, IMHO peoples comments is what makes a build thread.
:chug:

Here's a close up of the wheels. They are fitted to my mates car.
He's a real Slacker when it comes to working on his car.:poke:

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Had a good day today.
Got door locks and strikers fitted and adjusted.
Fitted side panel catches front and rear.
Fitted front and rear panel aligner spigots.

Was expecting trouble fitting door locks and
strikers but all seemed go together well.
Working towards a drive in late Jan if all goes
well. I'm reading a couple of good books at the
moment, CAN-AM Racing cars by Karl Ludvigsen,
Brillant detailed pics and CAN-AM by Pete Lyons.
I wonder if Fran will do a replica of the Fan Car??

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Fitted my DRB replica GT40 headlights today. Was not happy that they dont have an E marking or ADR stamp on them.

Also had my windscreen fitted today and was not happy with the way
the screen sits in body. The fitter (professional)tried for as long as he could to get it even but looks like that is how it's meant to be.
Not real happy with my DRB at the moment.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave, my headlights were as recommended by DRB - Hella 1059. There is no way that I can read the markings on the lamps, but my engineer (the strictest in NSW) had no problem with them. In the section of his report titled Headlights, he wrote :

"Hella 1059 - The vehicle complies with the requirements of the ADR"

Re the windscreen fit - mine was not perfect either. The "best fit" positioning gave gaps varying from 2mm to about 10mm (this largest gap being at the bottom of the RHS corner). I got a professional installer to fit the outer plastic extrusion / seal (supplied by DRB) & he got it to all fit fine & fully cover the wide-gap area (plenty of fiddling & sealant).

Hope this helps a bit.

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Thanks Pete and Peter
Peter I got the wide GT40 replica lights from DRB similar to Pete's
but not the same. All seems well as we have recieved some paper work
that my engineer seems to think will make these lights acceptable.

My windscreen has problems on the bottom left (passenger side) corner.
10mm gap up top and right on the edge on bottom and sticking slightly proud of the body work on the left lower corner.

Looking at it again this morning seems it's not that bad and I now have a
warm feeling about my DRB again.:)

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Finished mount and wiring most of the lights today.
Hoping to drive next weekend although my seat Trimmer says
I could have to wait 8 weeks for my seats as he is flatout.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave,
I hope that plate is from one of your other cars. Surely she's not licensed already !

Looking good. At this rate you will be ready for a shake down run in March at the twighlight sprint.

Hi Rick

What date is the March twilight? I might pop out for a look-see.

Thanks

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Richard,
1st round of the speed event series for '07.

Saturday 3rd March. Afternoon / twighlight sprint on the short circuit at Barbagallo.

I am pretty sure it's a calendared tuning day which preceeds the event start.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave S,

Good work and looking great.

Please tell me that you ARE going to cut out those rear end panels, one of which is sporting the reversing light otherwise you are going to have a built in air brake, all year round oven and a rear deck trying even harder to blow itself off.

Regards,

Graham @ GTA.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Hi Graham
Yea we are going to cut the panels out after Rego (licensing).
My Engineer says I must comply with ADR's when it comes to lights
Which means they have to be in the right position. After rego we will
chuck away the choker exhaust ,the crappy light positions, the stock
engine and all the other ADR pain in the butt crap.boomsmile

Not long to go before we drive it and I am going to submit my application
for a VIN number next week. :)

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Hi Dave - you are powering along !!

I would go along with Graham's advice regarding cutting out the rear panels - without this venting, the under-deck area will get way too hot - even just frigging around for rego.

I mounted 2 x Hella 1403 reversing lamps just inside the openings - a simple bent bit of aly bar, glassed onto the inside of the clip did the job. For rego, I was not allowed to have the mesh covers in place.

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Fitted front cover panel dzus clips and spent the weekend getting the door lock mechanisms working. decided to use a mechanical linkage
inside the door as I dont trust cables. Also fitted some of this alloy heat
shield tape to fibreglass engine cover, don't think it will make much difference but can't hurt.
