Door handle finger recess MKII

Have seen a few cars with this door handle recess. Any info on size, material, etc… Appears to be riveted in place.

Following is a picture of 1046 drivers door. Shown as riveted in place. On my car we moulded using a golf ball as a pattern as it was approximately the right size. Different cars also appear to have differences e.g. 1046 has on both driver and passenger door whereas 1015 only had on driver's door in 1966.
