Amcor Anyone?

I am looking to purchase one of these:

Amcor MF14000eH 14000 BTU



Portable air con/heat pump/dehumidifier, because I can no longer tolerate humidity of above 70% (which is pretty much all the time here)


I got through the summer with fans and judicious manipulation of through drafts etc but there is no way I can go through this again next year hence the unit above. For maximum effect, I will not use a window for exhaust, but will have the wall drilled for a proper outlet.



I am thinking it's a US unit, but possibly made in PRC - anyone have experience of this manufacturer's products?

Keith, I have read some reviews and these are a few considerations:

built-in GFI circuit "trips frequently", too sensitive. Fix = 20 amp dedicated circuit breaker.

Frequent emptying of water tray (every 4 hours in 85% humidity). Fix = plumb it directly outdoors, provisions for this are easy.

Exhaust hose gets hot to the touch and adds to heat in the room. Fix = Put cheap water pipe insulation on the hose and route it outside.

These are the major complaints. Most say the unit works well, except for above comments. One Gent has had his for 3 years without issue.

I think you'll be okay as you plan a dedicated installation. Note: Drain hose is one-inch above the bottom of unit. Mount it a couple feet off the floor if possible.

You may wish to consider a ductless mini split system. They require a professional to install, but are extremely efficient. They are so quiet, you sometimes need to look at the outdoor unit to see if the fan is running. They use a lot less energy and you don't need to worry about condensate disposal since that is plumbed out with the copper pipes connecting the outdoor unit with the indoor.

They're more expensive and only cool/heat one room, and need tiny Japanese hands to work on the innards, but most people love them and wouldn't change once they've experienced them.

I agree with Bob. Those systems are better- if you can find one that is set up for 240/50 cycle current, it would be the way to go.

Now that I think on it, AC IS rare in the UK, isn't it....
