Bypass Thermostats

I am studying different ways to incorporate a thermostat into an electric pump system. My location suggests that I include a heater in the build to allow me to cruise in some of the colder months. And for a heater to be effective, it needs to warm up quickly - thus the need for the thermostat system

I have found input on the BMW 318i thermostat but it would be nice to change the thermostat trigger level without changing the entire unit.

I then found a reference to the Jaguar remote thermostat, which looks like it would fit the bill. I've seen the unit on some European distributor's sites and thru various Chinese suppliers. They say it is for a Jaguar S-Type, 2002-2008, was used on other Jaguar models and also on the Ford Contour 1998-2000

But as I search my go-to place for replacement parts (RockAuto.com), all I find is molded plastic manifolds that don't look anything like this. I want to make sure that a replacement thermostat is truly available and that I am not stepping into an item that has no replaceable parts.

Is anyone familiar with this unit:

I can't find this on RockAuto - all the Jag units appear to be multi-outlet plastic manifolds. Close-ups of the unit clearly show the Ford part number F53E-8K528-CB That number also ties into some Mustang and Lincoln 4.6 usage but again, the unit just doesn't show up in the normal channels.

Any input on the piece? Usable? Problems associated with it?

I have used this unit before with good luck. There are some cheaper knockoffs out there, but I know this is a quality piece. I have made something similar for my build. The .500 port you can run your bypass.

I’ve updated another thread regarding this type of Stat. The one I used was spec’d for the BMW 2002 as it had the temperature range I was looking for (but I’ll be darned if I can remember what that value was!)….
I absolutely believe that the recirculating system is precisely the right move. No hot spots, no air bubbles…

If you run an electric waterpump controler, you won't need a stat!
The controler makes the engine heat up quickly in a controled way.
So a heater system will work as it should.
My Craigh Davies controller just pumps the system for a few seconds till the engine is warmed up.

You may need to ad an auxilary pump for your heater system as usualy in a GT40 there aint enough flow if you T both rad pipes up front to run a heater rad.

Have driven mine around freezing point. Dont have a heater at all. Just a jacket was enough.
Have a heated screen though. Best investment.

if it is the thread I am thinking of, and its the BMW E30 thermostat used on the M10 engine, then its an 80°C unit. I could not see a way of changing the thermostat for ones of different temperatures. my understanding is that Ford normally run a 91°C thermostat on the Windosr engine. This may impact the emissions output of the engine if its operating at a colder temperature. This may be a factor if you have to pass any form of emissions testing.

Paul Pro, that looks like a very handy unit.

@BuiltbyDan This may be helpful for relocating the thermostat that is on the front of the Coyote motor. My understanding is that it sits up high on the front of the port side head and is potentially a clash point with the rear fire wall.

JP, can you share more information regarding your heated screen. Thx much. Randy
