All about the RCR LMP1...

Its somewhat dependent upon the packaging but thats our intent....

We have to make sure we can accomodate the wet and dry sump packages and keep the exhaust a good distance from all ancilliaries..

We have some coming that should fit the bill...will keep you posted...

Your transaxle arrived today BTW.....

Why does everybody keep asking that? :inquisitive:
Its not for the street :dozey:
Its for track fun :burnout:
The only kind of fun :grinf:

With an SL-C available... I dont understand why a person would want an LMP1 for the street?

LOL... Some might call it one upmanship. Other might call it penil enhancement. :lipsrsealed:

This particular car (LMP) has one single dedicated use - Racing. Sounds like the same could be true for many of the cars that we have created ourselves for road use... Although, typically the cars that we are replicating had to have a certain number of units delivered by a manufacturer for road use. I don't believe that to be the case for the rules today governing the LMP class..

No homologation requirement in LMP1.

No roof? no real winshield? no place to put your starbucks? no doors? no place for a passenger? Get hit by anything bigger than a Mini and your pretty much dead? LMP1 on the street sounds like a sportbike... only 8 times more expensive:drunk:

No homologation requirement in LMP1.

Yes there is one !!

FIA rule homologation for tub safety "crash test "

1/ front crash box test
2/ side test pannel by pusching 7 ton with hydraulic cylinder thru a wood square
3/ similar test onto the top cocpit where the sterring wheel is attatched
4/ pusching test with an angle of 15 °applied to the driver rollbar
5/ separate test for checking the possible undoing of the steering wheel pushpull after a collapse test ( 5 kg mass thrown vertically to the steering wheel
6/ hard point driver harness fittings are checked when doing the front crash test with a "manequin" 80 kg simulating the driver

And if everythinhing is ok ; "et voila en route pour LE MANS" !!!!

But evidently all this has nothing to do with road rule test !!!! NOOOOthing

And I agree ; an LMP1 is a beautifull toy on track and become so" hawfull" to live in normal road use ( no doors ? visibility ?ground clearance? Rain ? etc etc )...... If you were maried to a top model will you bring her to a muddy
rugby party ?????? LOL

Definition - Homologation - Motorsports:

"Where a racing class requires that the vehicles raced be production vehicles only slightly adapted for racing, manufacturers typically produce a limited run of such vehicles for public sale so that they can legitimately race them in the class."

NASA road racing: SU (superunlimited)
SCCA road racing: SP (superproduction) or ASR - both regional only classes

No homo required.

Been talking to you via email yesterday from Australia and you mentioned this project.
I have read all your posts on this forum and may I say you seem to have a very clear vision of what the car should be, I think your concept is spot on.
I think just like the SLC its cooler to have its own identity rather than being constantly referred to as a replica of bla bla, so continue to ignore all the forum chat about the original car and centre locks and streetcars etc etc and build it the way it should be, simple, sexy and fast.

So who else, on here, has ponied up and ordered an RCR LMP1? Wouldnt mind sharing some ideas around powertrain, oil system, safety equipment, air jacks, exhaust, fuel system, fire suppression system, wiring, various coolers, etc.

Anybody else planning to :burnout:an LMP1?

We are, but 100x100 race garage comes first (got to get semi and support trucks/trailers under cover asap.), we hope to order our cars by late next year (2013). This "acting like a race team" stuff takes alot of $$$!

Hi KevinV,
I am seriously looking at this car, and if I pull the trigger, I would definately like to share everything with everyone. I have not ordered yet. Waiting to see how it plays out. I am a member of the new (being built) Thermal Motorsports Country Club in the Palm Springs area, and this seems like an ideal car for that enviornment. I have built an Ultima GTR,(555HP 383 SBC, dry-sumped, 6-seed Getrag, fire system, etc.) and it seemed easy. However, I do not consider myself a fabricator. My "day-job" is as an Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon. I need to find the time to visit Fran and find out what I'm getting into. As to your post regarding why anyone would want to drive this car on the street? ........ Because it's there!

Thermal Motorsports Country Club in the Palm Springs area? Interesting... I shall look into it! The wife show jumps her horses there every winter. Horses (for her) and horsepower (for me)... sounds like a great semi-retirement/wintering in the US plan

Not having built either car... but having built lots of other cars I would assume the Ultima would be about the same complexity to build. There would be more stuff to do on the Ultima... but complexity wise... it would be about the same.

When I take delivery of my RCR LMP1... I think I will do my own build thread so those that are intersted can follow along.

I was thinking of flying out to meet Fran, see the car and write the final cheque... hopefuilly around x-mas time.
