All about the RCR LMP1...

J.

I didn't know you had any cars yet...wink..

Keep in mind I am not building a nut and bolt replica....
I am making these track cars.....so dont expect them to be detailed like the original..the chassis is an aluminum mono tub with and steel and aluminum in the rear half.....No carbon fiber.....and with no turbos there is no need for the rear snorkels to feed them.

Custom wheels will cost at least $4k a set typically, especially in these widths...and that would be a two or three piece aluminum wheel...not single piece mag.like the originals..

J, There are a number of wheel makers that will cut you any design you want from a solid billet/forged puck (for a price of course). Although if I remember correct the max width is 13 inches as the aluminum foundry that makes the puck only offers blanks to that size.

There was a 'card table' guy who was offering any mono wheel size you could dream up at about 8K a set at SEMA a few years back. Unfortunately I don't think he was able to generate enough biz as I never heard any more from them.

Cheers

Thanks for the info guys, its good to know we have the option to get too the original size/style (and $4K to $8K doesn't sound too terrible). A two or three piece alum. wheel wouldn't be dangerous used at these widths and in this capacity would it?

Fran, the LMP1 was what we had in mind when we visited in 09 with Tom looking to turn the SLC into this same idea so its a real safe bet that (short of death or job loss) we are coming for at least two cars asap! Our minds are made up, it's what we have been waiting for for all these years, we are very excited down here! :pepper: We know the cars arnt going to be a bolt for bolt remake. We also know that you know what your doing and the cars will be more robust/usable as long term track toys because of your engineering/construction so its better that they are not exact copies from where we sit. All of the fun/feel of Le mans at a fraction of the cost, you cant beat that. Sorry it sounds like so much a** kissing but seriously this is just the best thing a track guy could ever ask for. A usable LMP1 prototype that doesn't cost $400k, if that idea doesn't make you smile your dead to the world! And the guy delivering the dream deserves the credit.

^No problem. I met the owner during GoldRush and have a buddy who is good friends with him. They have awesome wheels, finishes and fitments, but charge you for the privilege. They even offer a design your own wheel program, so if your wallet and want were deep enough, you could have the one's pictured, even in centerlock.

^Lol, not that far. I guess I should rephrase, you can get the exact fitment and style in a forged construction which will be very light. Titanium.........eh, give them a call.

Or....we make them at RCR as we also have the originals to replicate, in two or three piece as I initially mentioned.........whistle....which also means they are repairable...not so with a one piece forged wheel...

Which is probably why most ALMS/Grand=am cars run multipiece wheels too...

^ this. I'm surprised more people don't go to Fran first for a lot of things such as a the accessories for an LS engine in an SL-C, he's already got what works.

ADV.1 will to titanium bolts and the like though.

This is what we were hoping you would say from the get go, everything "in house" makes us breathe easier. :2thumbsup:

^I didn't know you made wheels. I was under the impression from reading the thread that you wouldn't offer a similar wheel which is why I recommended another brand. I wasn't insinuating that people should not use RCR for parts and services.

We only do the unusual types to support our own kits ...such as t70, Mk4, 917 and P4 styles...regular BRM or Halibrands we have Vintage Wheels as a supplier..

We have just done some 18" 6 spoke 962 style ones for a customer too

Fran... here is a question I forgot to ask you the other day... are you going to able to supply or recommend aftermarket headers (as opposed to full custom) for the LS engine in the LMP?
