To further clarify Rob's post for Trader, Rob also split the radiators and placed them in front of each rear wheel. They are each fed by the side scoops behind the doors. Also, to note, Rob's car is about 6 feet wider than any other SL-C after he fabricated a widebody rear for his car. If he hadn't, I'd doubt the ability to place large enough radiators in that space to sufficiently cool any motor making real power.

on chilly days would be nice to have heat....also even though its a Barchetta ,having cool air blowing on you may not be such a bad idea in hot climates..

Plenty of people use their AC with open cars, starting with my wife.

Maybe an extra-cost option for those who think they want it?

Skip the AC, and go with the heat. Heat I can stand, and AC adds - for me - unnecessary weight, cost and complexity.

Definitely make it (at least) an option. Those of us who live near the surface of the sun would like the option. The Razor is smoking hot during the summer time in traffic. But when you're moving, it's just like riding a motorcycle in the heat. Not bad, as long as there's air flow.

In terms of performance, how would the SL-C and the SL-C LM differ? How will an open cockpit car like the SL-C LM perform on the track compared to the 'original'. Clearly visibility will dramatically improve, along with the visceral feeling of the road, but is that it?

I cant speak for the Classic SLC vs Le Mans. But there shouldn't be munch difference in performance if any. You might be shaving a maybe 200 lbs from the car with out the roof, full windshield, top half of the doors. Due to the body being fiber glass it might not have any structural support. Unlike every car ever made. So in that theory you should be able to run the the car with out the body.

Are you suggesting that, due to a lack of roof (ergo support), the SL-C Le Mans will be more prone to body roll and twisting compared to the hard-top coupe during turns?

Why would you begin to think the body roll would be increased...thats a function of the suspension.

The body of the SL-C is a skin....for aerodynamics and to keep the rain out....

The aero packaging for the SL-coupe is more effective than the SL- Le Mans....the same is true of the LMP1 Le Mans race cars...you may have noticed the move away from open top cars to fully enclosed coupes in the last few years....there is no mystery surrounding this...its all aero based.


The SL LeMans is a true Barchetta and is aimed at the sports car customer that wants a unique 'SPORTSCAR"...
That said should someone want to take a SL-LeMans and make it track car...I am behind them 100%...I love seeing my cars doing what they were designed to do...go fast around corners and in a straight line....

The new RCR LMP will be the open top race car from me....based on a real open top LMP1 race car...the LMP1 Cadillac...and have zero streetability

The SL-LeMans has a much more formed interior and is a very stylistic machine...with real Boulevard potential too...

Obviously sharing the underpinings with the SL-C it is a serious performer and will still give the established supercars a few fits....

Fran thanks for clearing it up a little better.

Now if you took the car sitting on your drive way. Took a chop saw to the roof, and tried to drive it. You wont get very far. You would have the frame twisted in a few hundred feet. That is unless you brace the frame and know what your doing.

Like I said you can run the SLC bear naked frame. You wont see any body twist, or body roll. Also Like Fran said the body only has two purposes. To keep you dry and track performance. I am not a fan of top less cars. But I do like how the SLC looks with out a top. If Fran would make a targa top version I would buy that over a normal hard top version.
