ZF vs. Quaife

Hi,

Is there anyone out there who has tried both the ZF and the Quaife transmissions in the Superformance GT40s? If so, can you give your impressions, including as to shift quality, durability and overall operation? As you may tell from my posts, I am seriously considering swapping my ZF for a Quaife rather than correcting weak 2nd gear synchros in the ZF as I use my car only on the road and have not been satisfied with the ZF.

Many thanks,
/s/ Chris

I can only speak for an RBT in an SPF with 427 Roush. Have never had any synchro problems after 30K miles. Did lose two 4th gears on track days though. You don't say whether your ZF has ever been rebuilt or mileage on synchros.

It was rebuilt when I got it. Thanks for your reply!

Some rebuilders use cheaper bronze synchro rings and if your clutch isn't getting full disengagement it can lead to higher synchro wear, 2nd is the weakest. I have not had any issues with rebuilt ZF's, my long distance driver Pantera one rebuilt 17 years ago.

I had mine rebuilt by RBT, but I have had lots of clutch engagement issues over the 7000 miles I've driven the car since new so perhaps you are correct.

Thanks,
