A new upgraded UN1 gearbox input shaft is now available.
The original shaft is only 21 mm in diameter and has a smaller section of only 16 mm in diameter which results in a weak point.
The upgraded shaft is 25.5 mm in diameter and has no smaller diameter weak point.
The clutch plate spline on the standard shaft is only 22 mm diameter with 21 fine splines whilst the upgraded shaft is 27 mm diameter with 10 large splines allowing the use of any Ford Small block V8 clutch drive plate for a much stronger clutch option.
The upgraded shaft is CNC machined in EN36 and heat treated.
It is also longer than than the standard shaft meaning that the front end of the shaft will be fully engaged in the standard crank spigot bearing without the use of an extended spigot bearing being used.
If an extended spigot bearing is not used the shaft will not be supported at the end.
For reference the Black shaft in the pictures is the standard UN1 version and the steel coloured shaft is the upgraded version so that you can visually see the difference.
The upgraded shaft is included as part of our Ford small block V8, Ford Coyote V8 and Chevrolet V8 engines to UN1 gearbox bellhousing conversion kit.
