Transaxle of choice to pair with Ford 347

Hi all,

I am starting to plan a GT40 build. I think I've decided on a 347 but with all the different transaxle options, I'm not sure what a good choice is for this engine. I'm also planning for more of a street driving car.
Looking for a suitable transaxle and would like your opinions.
* It would be good to find something readily available and has any needed parts available.
* I'm looking for reliable and strong enough to handle this engine but not looking to spend at the top end. I'm not going to be racing but if I push it, I don't want to break anything.
* I've been trying to read about the UN1, Porsche 930, Porsche 996 and Audi variants.
* I also don't want to feel like I need to upgrade a transaxle soon after I get up and running. I'd rather start with a long term set-up.

Any thoughts or for those who currently have a 347, what are you connected to and how do you enjoy it?

I have not started. Just planning now. Where is the best place to find a ZF. I will admit, with what I have read the ZF is a bit confusing to me just because there seem to be many options. Is there something specific I should be look for or looking at?

I've started looking a the ZF ZF 5DS-25/2. At what looks to be $20-30K for a rebulit one - that will be out of my price range. Unless I am misunderstanding the pricing.

Well, first i would consider what you are going to build. If you are building some sort of spaceframe you can adopt most of the available transaxles. If you are building an original style monocoque your options are a bit more limited.

Also what type of shifter linkage, shifter location, rhd/lhd could also be worth considering.

I am looking at spaceframes. it will be lhd but I have not thought about the shifter linkage yet. Thank you for the thoughts.
