Thoughts on a side mirror alternative

For those that have tried different side mirrors and ways to “check 6”…what are your thoughts on maybe using an aircraft canopy mirror just inside the side window on the door A pillar?

Being a military pilot, I know they are of limited use but would help just to check that blind spot before changing lanes. The pic below is my idea but with mirrors about half that size to tuck into that space on the A pillar.

BTW, I am already planning for a rear camera utilizing the center rear view mirror as well so just seeing if these would really add anything to backing into parking or passing awareness too. I am bringing a few other things from my aviation background like the circuit breakers and covered switches into my build so thought this would go with that theme too.

Got to see those blind spots!

As far as rear mirror/camera setup. I have to do that myself. I have been looking for a setup that has more of a panoramic screen look on the "mirror".

I myself was an A&P, now a Technicial Representative. But an using plenty of aviation parts on my build as I have acquired over the years lots of unused parts.

I'm not so sure if the style of canopy mirror would really work on the pillar area. Would be interested in seeing an inseat perspective of one.

I’m still in the hospital for a few days without access to my PC. But I had researched some options and thought I found one I liked. When I get back home I’ll try and post on it. I will be following this thread closely.

Thanks

push down your right foot hard then turn :-)
Plan a lane change well ahead, watching everything in your mirrors.

They'll more often than not be someone sitting in your blindspot videoing or taking photos.
Actually makes lane changes difficult and stressful.
Others come storming up in your rear view mirrors; you expect them to sweep by but they slow and sit in your blindspot, before giving the thumbs up.
No real world solution, I've yet to find.

Lean forwards and glance back as far as you can, seems to give some confidence; and as Rob says get ready with the loud pedal.

I don’t remember if it is these people or not, but these guys will customize it to your application. I have information on my PC at home but I don’t have access currently.

I used Raydyot's with convex mirrors on a custom made bracket. I can see pretty well out both sides. I was going to use the Cobra Valley units but the Raydyots worked better. Since they bolt on, can be removed with no impact to the car.

Similar here to supplement bullet mirrors on the front clip… 50mm convex blind spot mirror from Amazon, supplied gimbal base mounted on a custom bracket fixed with 3M double sided tape.

Ok I bought a set of these that look like the military-spec mirrors on the aircraft I flew. I’ll be getting the spider and doors back on in the coming months and will post pics of them mounted then. These are approximately 5.25”X 2.5”
