The original GT40 replica?

NOT my intention to advertise (hence the post here) but just thought it may be of interest to the worldwide GT40 community. here...Ford GT40 1980 on eBay (end time 11-Mar-10 15:51:25 GMT)
Is the grand daddy of all our cars, this is Ken Attwells very first (his own) GT40 replica. Built as a copy of a mk3 and with just a 4 cylinder escort engine. I hope whoever buys it realises it's history.

Mr Attwell never intended to put these into production, he loved the cars but was only ever going to build one for himself. He wanted to use it all the time so wanted it to be user friendly (economical?)
It was only when he was pestered that he decided to start making more.
Incidentally, he wasn't the "director of motorsport"

I have an original KVA brochure, would anyone like me to scan it and post here?
would it be worth having a section on the site with scanned brochures from the various manufacturers just for interest?
Simon

I have a road test in an English kit car magazine from the time, and correspondence on the car with Mr Attwell. The "small"engine was mounted I understand, on a subframe that could be quickly unbolted and removed with some disconnections (I have not actually seen it). It certainly revved up the interest in replica GT40's.
Incidentally, he had already made another replica (Morgan, I think) for his daughter, so was a fairly handy person with the tools.

I drove this very car ,when I visited Ken on my return from the Falklands..I was the mechanical engineer in charge at MPA...& stayed the night at his home, before visiting the workshops the next morning & placing my deposit on a KVA. Unfortunately on return to Scotland I bought a big rambling old house that took every penny off my then megre fortune & had to give up on owning my gt40 & lost my deposit...watch your e-mails Chris cause 1 day it,ll be from me . It came up for auction in about 2004

I believe it went for about £8k - I was interested but thought wrongly it would be outside my budget

I'd certainly be interested in getting a scanned copy.

I have original paperwork that came with my '93 KVA/Sabre and a Kit Car article of circa '95 when it was a feature car.

Simon. I would certainly be interested in a copy of any paperwork you have on the KVA. Trying to build up a portfolio on my own car for info .
Thanks

I'll dig it out and scan it.
Does anyone object if I post it here? the company is long since defunct and the founder has passed away. I don't think I'd be treading an any toes?

How about put it up in the media subforum so that it might be found if someone should be looking for it? Paddock threads have short lifetimes and I can't see someone browsing them..

Julian,

I have a KVA - I'd be interested in getting a copy of your manual. My manual labeled "Sabre GT 40 Assembly Manual" (is this the same one you have?) has no pictures and no dates. It lists the assembly in stages.

At the rear of the manual is a spreadsheet labeled "Sabre GT351 Bill of Materials" which lists all the prices, part numbers and, and 1999 prices!

Now I'm not suggesting this is what happened.....but shill bidding is rife on ebay UK, you see it all the time nowadays

When I lived in Koeln Germany, I almost bought a KVA. i set up an appointment with Mr Atwell, went to Bridgend, and fortunately for me, he didn't show up !!! I am sure the car would have consumed vast quantities of dollars and dm. I threw all of my old kit car stuff out and don't have a copy of his perspective.
