RCR's Next car should be.....

I've always been a fan of Chrysler concept cars. One of my favorites was the Chronos sedan. But if Fran were to build one, it would have to be the ME-412.

Edit: For a front/rear layout, I like the Chrysler Firepower.

Fran -- nice plug in that article.--

"The VSR was constructed at Race Car Replicas, the Michigan-based shop responsible for exquisite recreations of Porsche 917s, Ford GT40s, and Ferrari P4s, among others."

I know this is rather bold for my first post, but how about a McLeran F1 clone? I know there might be copyright issues and its not really a vintage car, but man it is a beautiful car. Even just a F1 skin for the SLC would be awesome. And I am not dogging on the SLC either, it is a beautiful car and there will be on in my future, just as soon as I can finish medical school.

And internship, residency and possible fellowship!!! Scott, you won't have much time or money for a while (eat when you can, pee when you can, sleep when you can......). But, welcome and I hope you can follow the dream.

Does anyone remember GM's Lean Machine from the early/mid 80's? This was an innovative three-wheel machine (one front and two rear wheels), with a motorcycle engine that leaned and banked around turns. This would be a great starter kit, and something a little out of the ordinary.

The Carver, out of Denmark (I think) was the most recent entry into this field however they went bust a year or so ago, trying to sell complete vehicles. Sell Kits!!!

The Carver was a very interesting machine but they couldn't get their US compliance so it was only marketed in Europe. Would have been a fun machine!

The issue with the carver was production. Due to the lower volume, it had to be priced high.

Another company came about years ago in the states called Venture Vehicles which then became Persu. They were going to license the DVC technology (tilt) from Carver and package it in a more attractive body. The main 'selling' point was going to be the drive-train; at first all electric, then eventually changed to a parallel hybrid. They never got off the ground, unfortunately.

There are two other companies still toying with the carver, one making it all electric abroad and the other licensing the DVC to make a flying version, the Pal-V.

I remember the Top Gear review of the Carver. It's a pretty cool concept, but I can't see people paying more than $20k for something like that. And besides, it's a VERY SMALL niche market.

I'd be interested in a "tad pole" trike if it looked similar to the Nemesis. The T-Rex has been around for 15+ years and they really haven't done anything to change it. But again, it's a VERY SMALL market. I don't see Fran getting into something like that.

Edit: The Razor and Nemesis already kind of fill that market. My Razor handles much better than a motorcycle, and you get the same wind-in-your-face feeling as a bike. And the speed and acceleration is on par with most "standard" bikes.

Scott,
Take heed of this advice! Plus, live below your means and pay off all that debt as fast as possible. Nothing like having to put off your SLC purchase a few months because the Mrs says you gotta pay off that last student loan first

ya I agree, 20K is a bit too much. A kit tho, utilizing a motorcycle front end, pedals with hydraulics to control the "lean", a motorcycle engine, and a rear end similar to an ATV, would be easy to build from a kit. Single or tandem seating, either enclosed with a canopy, or open, would be great fun.

A step below the Razor and Nemesis in my opinion.

McLaren would be nice but so would a variant of a Saleen S7

Thank you for the kind words and advice:). I guess I am getting a little ahead of myself as I am due for an interview in a month but with my scores and grades I should be fine. And while attending the Uniformed Services University (I am in the NAVY and plan on staying a NAVY M.D. so USUHS is a natural choice) not only do they pay for school but they pay me while I am there, so I might just have the money. Plus I will need something to decompress from school when I get that rare moment to do something other than study or eat or sleep. We will see, the wife says if the money is there I can do it, and that is a big hurdle in and of itself.

Sorry to get off topic, I agree the S7 would be a great car as well. When it first came out I thought its lines were similar to the S7.
