Quaife ZF H-pattern QBE62G

Hello everyone,

I’m still searching for a gearbox that will fit and handle the 580 Newton meters of torque from my engine. Does anyone have any information on the Quaife H-pattern ZF-type gearbox? I’ve sent several emails but haven’t received any response, even though it’s listed as in stock on their website. Is this gearbox robust? It’s rated for 500 horsepower, but they don’t specify the torque.

Compared to the Audi 01E gearbox, which of the two will be more durable?

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Its more a question about use, how it will be driven, tyres, tarmac. Will you live on the redline and run the curbs with negative torque going through the shafts or be puttering along on country lanes in 50mph?

ZFQ is fine for most of us within reason, same is the Audi box.

An O1E can be had for a £300 easily, and upgraded internally. Then its shafts, flywheel, clutch, adaptor plate etc to find a solution for.

ZFQ when properly set up will take a good pounding in both racing and road. Cost it a bit more at £12000 or so stock. Bellhousing, flywheel, clutch etc is all off the shelf parts.

If you drive the ZF/ZFQ with sence and not like a Honda S2000 yanking the gears in like most young drivers, but ease power in and ease the throttle out letting the torque do its job, then you will have a better chance of not stripping the gears in any of the boxes.

Also, the Audi O1E sits 2” or so higher in the chassis over a ZFQ due to the offset box design and shaft angle.

If the question of gearbox choice is going into a monocoque the O1E will not be wise as nothing will fit in regards to tub design.
