Hi guys. I need your advice.
I'm in trouble registering my 1996 GT40 KVA/GTD in France. I've got a V5 and all customs documents but
I absolutely need a document: national identity certificate or certificate of conformity.

Does anyone know how to get one? I don't know how to get in touch with GTD or a representative or a company accredited by the liquidators.

thanks folks

You are not the only one in France as Paul Hendrixks is having the same issues.

Regulations have changed making it impossible it seems.

I do not know if in Europe all the country are using the same way to register, because the idea would be to use a friend in this country that could register the car. Then, when the car is registred anywhere in Europe France has no choice to register it. It is a new law in use since 2 months now.

Interesting information that runs here and there but with no evidence of its reality. Should you provide any information (text law reference), it would be really appreciated on this forum and for many owners.

Thank you in advance.

After Brexit, registrating a GT40 with UK V5 papers into the EU is a huge challenge, nearly impossible.
Some slip through, most get rejected.
I used a specialist company (at a cost) to get mine road legal in Holland.
I now have a 1981 Ford GT sports coupe on papers road legal
1981 where my KVA didn't excist..

Now when the UK no longer is in the EU, the EU doesn't have to take the V5s that are not accurate and representative to the vehicle.
So it all will be handled within 2024 regulations.
Loads of Ferrari replicas are rejected to as many others like super sevens.

Seen lots of Ford Cortina GT40 registrations..
Seen loads 1968 GTD's also..

They arent stupid. They just found a way to reject these (Brexit).

Many thanks.

So, according to the law, as long as your EU title has fields :

A,B,C1,D1,D2,D3,E,F1,G,H,I,P1,P2,P3,S1

fully filled and not empty, the car can be registered with just the local homologation agency to check if the vehicle matches with these fields..
These fields filled are mandatory. So it means that beside the mechanical value of a car there is a very high value to have a deep look at the title to check for the fullfillments of these fields and then the wonderful land of a road legal GT40 in France is opened to you..Nice.

I attached the form to be filled to go through such process.

Does anyone have a photo of their KVA nameplate?
Just to see its location and the information it contains. (you can blur the numbers if you want)

Hi Thibaud
One of the reasons I sold my Dax was due to not being able to register it in France. I did try to register it as a voiture de collection, but that failed as the car was not 30 years old at the time. The guy I sold it to came from Toulouse and reckoned he could get it registered in France. He had a cobra that he failed to register. He did contact me a couple of years ago and sent me a photo of the car with its French registration plate! So it is possible. This was also before the uk finally left the eu.

Just thinking about this……..
Are kit cars or whatever they are classified as allowed in other EU countries….Poland, Hungary etc?

Could they be registered in these countries and then be transferred to France?

Yes a lot of additional work and expense but it could become a route to legal French registration
