New member with a 427 CAV dry sump and transmission problems

On a hard launch, the rear cover of my Quaife transaxle cracked. I ordered the upgrade kit from Quaife but I guess it will be always risky with my 427 dry sump 610 HP engine. Here in Europe, there are plenty of audi 01E transmissions available and they can be fairly easily prepped to take 800 whp. I thought that could be an alternative and hope to find some parts and hints here in the forum.

I sincerely doubt that you’ll find an Audi 01E that will stand up to a regular diet of “hard launches” with the torque produced by your 610hp engine.

That was a misunderstanding, I apologize. It was just my lack of experience and knowledge about the sensitive aspects of the Quaife transaxle that led me to the idea to participate at a quarter-mile race for a father and son amusement. I bought it for weekend track use and don’t have to do hard launches.
I sometimes take my twin turbo Cummins equipped Monteverdi to 1/4 mile events. It’s a daily driver, but has 1044 rwhp and 1600 lbs/ tq but that has a built 9” Ford and a bullet proof Suncoast transmission.
I am simply worried, that even with the billet cover with new semi slicks on 17” wheels the Quaile will be on the edge. Obviously, I can avoid the curbs and definitely stay away from hard launches.
There are a lot of audi guys who do quarter-mile races on a regular basis with amazing Turbo VR6 and 5 cylinder builds that use 01E’s so I thought that might be, as well under economic considerations be an alternative. And to have six speed instead of five might be interesting

Both the ZFQ and RBT 5 are rated to about 500 lb. ft. There are stories of ZF and the modern iterations in 700 hp Panteras, but you're definitely stretching things. I broke 4th gear twice with my RBT, 520 lb. ft. 427 Roush, and semi slicks on track days.

Hi Thomas,

The solution involves strengthening the motor and transaxle mounts, not the fault of the transaxle (Quaife or ZF/RBT).

Your chassis production number and whatever work was done during the fitting of the drivetrain will dictate what modifications are possible to the parts on the car or replace with beefier parts.

Cheers
Ian
