Mufflers- LS3

So I am having the LS3 dropped in with side exhaust. I have read about the Hushpower PS2 "shortie" on a thread- but I cannot recall which thread it was???:shrug:
My assumption is that since I am having a side exhaust, there will be some limitations on size. Apparently the PS2 has technology such that they don't generate a lot of heat, which could be important in a tight space. Suggestions on mufflers?

I think you want the Hushpower Pro Series.

Damn - my mistake. I've had both mufflers, the HP II's on my old car - the Hushpower Pro's on the SLC. It is the Hushpower Pro's we're talking about.

How loud are you mufflers?



I'm looking for a muffler that is relatively quiet and I’m considering the Flowmaster Pro & DBX mufflers as well. I spoke with FlowMaster Tech Support. They tell me that the Flowmaster Pro & DBX mufflers internals are the same. The only differences are:
  • Color: The Pro is black & the DBX is bare stainless
  • Size: The Pro is available in 16” and 12” lengths. The DBX is available only in 14”
Size counts. The longer the quieter. I’m running my exhaust out the back and think I can stuff a 16” Pro in there, but the stainless DBX would look better.

FYI, Flowmaster bought HushPower and added their mufflers to the Flowmaster product line.

If you're running them out the back -- here's the larger HP Pro and they are quieter than others.

And this is what they will sound like out the back with a LS376

Varroom...They sound great!

Are you using the street tail? If so, do the outlet side of the mufflers line up with the cutout openings in the street tail?

I hear a little "lope" in your motor. Are you running the 480HP LS3?

Yes, street tail. The mufflers likely could have been installed backward a little further, but... the main muffler body may have fouled on the deck lid if any closer - I'd have to re-check. I have very simple 3-4" length pipe extended off the muffler ends, The muffler tips sit approx. 2" past the grille area. I plan on eventually getting the exhaust hot ceramic coated.

Yes on the 480hp crate engine -- LS376

The HP's are a tight fit thru the back framework. I'd recommend you get the mufflers first before bending and/or configuring the exhaust pipe forward of the muffler. Dangle/angle will come into play.

Now this is a SWEET exhaust design!

And the sound is just perfect. It sounds exactly the way these cars should sound. I can't wait to see a picture of of the rear with the tail and diffuser in place.

I am asking this with the thought "there are no dumb questions". If I go with the HP Pro 2 Shortie, it is finished in black. I'm not crazy about that. If I plan on having my exhaust ceramic coated, then does it really matter? In other words, would all of the exhaust look the same then? Any idea of cost for ceramic coating? Does anyone have another recommendation for a muffler?

Not sure how a black muffler would effect the ceramic coating, but I was quoted $400 for my exhaust to get done. I like the look of the "burnt" stainless better though...

You mean the Hushpower Pro (leave the 2 off - don't get me confused again). Several color choices or more are usually available - I do not believe it makes a difference what color your pipes start as. I'm lucky for there is a good coating shop in my area and I've never paid more than 350.00 to get a set done (headers, short pipes and mufflers).
