Jeffs RCR GT40 MK1 Build

Hi I'm Jeff, and I am an addict.
Addicted to European vintage sports cars/bikes.
70 year old, retired engineer, tired of cleaning, painting, old crusty parts. Have always loved the GT40, and decided my next project would be to build one.
So yesterday pulled the trigger, and ordered my RCR GT40 Mk1 deluxe plus kit. Details:
  • LHD
  • Double nostril front panel
  • 15" Halibrands
  • Prestige stroker 302 long block
  • Transaxle: 986, or 987 ( need to research/decide)
  • Window hardware
  • Door boxs
  • Hartwell latches
  • Door eyebrows
  • Bundle of snakes exhaust
Thats it for now I will be finishing up my remaining projects, doing more research, and ordering parts.
Regards
Jeff

Welcome to GT40S Jeff. I’m glad you have started a build log. In my opinion, You have chosen a good project to start with. As others have said, please keep us posted with updates as you progress.

Regards Brian

Jeff, That's great your not to far from me in Spring Hill, West of Brooksville. Also you get to work on it year round. Been pretty cold lately so good time to complete your projects inside the garage.

Welcome Jeff, I am in the same situation as you, engineer, retired, tired to work on old rusted metal, now finishing a RCR GT40, but I am much younger than you, I am only 67 :D

Pleasantly surprised with the number of builders in the central Florida area. Hope to meet everyone one day.
So I am hopeful that I will receive my car prior to years end. In the meantime my current projects that need finishing. 83 Ferrari Mondial QV is a total restomod, finishing the front end rebuild, wife wants me to sell it, so most likely will. 1999 Ducati 748 is a stock restoration, and the 2003 Ferrari 360 Spyder is getting a new exhaust system from headers back. The 1986 Lotus Turbo Esprit, just needs to get driven.

So finished up the work on the 83 Ferrari Mondial QV, sold it last week, doing work on the 360 Spyder next.
Question when would be a good time to order my motor, trans?

Jeff, If you a getting a Quaife or RBT transaxle, I would get it on order now. I ordered my Quaife ZF on 9/30/2022 and it arrived at RCR on 5/2/23. Wait times change, but the sooner the better, especially if you are getting your car soon. Crate engines can ship the next day if in stock, and you will need it soon after the car arrives and your chassis is together. In my case, I ordered a turnkey car from Fran and was ready for the engine once the car arrived.

Not perticular to your setup:
Also investigate what bell housing, flywheel, clutch package, starter and clutch release systen (internal or external) you want to use.... some selection might interfere with other parts like oil pan with starter.....
Shift linkage / cable shift ?

Hi all,
Thanks for the responses, very helpful.
Nothing exciting yet, but did order some stuff:
From Prestige Motorsport: Ford 347 425 HP, Holley F.I.
From CMS: Porsche G96, Flipped, LSD, totally rebuilt with new ring/pinion, Syncros, etc.
So much for a budget!
Regards
Jeff

Progress on the GT40 project. Motor build underway. Ford 347 stroker at Prestige. Lets go!
