Hello Question Type of GT40

Hi
i m new here
My question is relative to a car which had been traveling around the world, maybe >america >england>hong Kong>Thailand as far as i know the story.
We would be glad to share with you it's identification plate in order to know its origin and pedigree from you, dear Xperts....
we dont find any id number on engine itself but have only a plate as following:

GTD 40 MK1
Chassis No 6A93H563544
Engine No 64996

I guess 1964, but MK1 were so rare as far as i know...
could anyone tell me which model and year it is ? and what about the engine specs
Thanks by advance.

Hello, please see your PM. I think for anyone to help identify the car, we will need more pictures than just the id plate. Different manufacturers did their suspensions different and bodies were different also. It’s one of those things where you help us, perhaps we can help you. There’s some really knowledgeable people on here. The ones in the UK seem to be able to identify almost anything.
Good luck with your search, but please post pictures.

Regards Brian

Hi Brian, thank you for your advice.

Cross over chassis members above gearbox and the rear body and ARB mounts do not look like GTD to me. GTD chassis numbes are stamped directly into the chassis and not on a chassis plate. Some builders used a chassis plate to give their own chassis numbers for what ever reason.

looking at the condition of the odd chassis bits, it seems these could be customer modifications. Rear gearbox mounts look different too.

thank you everybody for your answers.
since this car became more mysterious...
  1. ENGINE: Engine production date number 3J19 = 19 october 1973 with a casting number D2AE-CA used on all 351C engines from 1972 until the end of production in the 1974 model year.
  2. Clutch is 770059 – 9238 still mysterious for me, i will try to find
  3. CHASSIS : According to some of you, car isn't a real GTD so could be before year 90's

Engine 351 Cleveland with 2 barrel heads as you can see the number two on the corner of the casting outside the edge of valve cover. Two barrel heads still have 2.05 intake valves which are large compared to most but small verses the four barrel heads which have 2.19 intake valves. First glance thought Boss 302 but no water running through the intake. Should perform great. Good luck with your journey.

The chassis (the stuff that doesn't unbolt as well as the rear uprights and suspension pieces) looks very much like my GTD. The center spider is a GTD. Some of the pieces that unbolt such as the horse collar crossbrace are homemade. I suspect that is because of the taller 351 deck height and a need to gain clearance for headers. I think the chassis number is trying to tell us that it was produced in 1993.

I see a good foundation for rebuilding what can be a nice car. You're going to end up making some parts but nothing that can't be done with a little persistence. Do you have the headers?
