GULF OIL Racing PANTONE &CMYK Equivalents

Hello All,

Brand new to the forum.

I really need help finding the CMYK or PANTONE paint code equivalents for the Gulf Oil racing colors...for print.

Powder Blue (PPG 12163)= ?
Topaz (Orange) (PPG 60812)= ?

Any help you can provide would be great!

I tried the search function and found one post but it was inconclusive as to what the codes were.

I have tried google, etc and no luck.

Thanks,

Stally

Stally,

Over the spring and summer of 2008, I spent an hour or two inquiring about paint colors used on the 40's owned by members of the forum. Many of those owners were happy to contribute and those results turned into the first release of the Color Registry (Click HERE).

The next release of the Color Registry (January 2009) includes far more information about paint, including a few colors which you might be specifically interested in. Just as before, credit for providing this information goes to members of the forum who have, in some cases, gone to considerable effort to locate this information. I am heading to my office today or tomorrow and will send you a copy of those codes.

Should that information not be exactly what you're looking for, I'd appreciate it if you would keep me in mind and send me a copy of your discovery so that it can be added to a future release of the Color Registry. If there's one thing we've all learned over the years, it's that someone will eventually be asking the same question at some point in the future, so being able to save them some time and effort wouldn't be such a bad thing to do...

Will be in touch soon. Happy holidays!

T.

Stally,

If You can get closest possible RAL -codes, i can tell You the CMYK and PMS -codes.

EDIT: In quick search in net i didn`t found converters from PPG to RAL. Maybe only way is take ppg-paint example pads with RAL -pads and compare-> RALs then can convert easily to CMYK and/or PMS; with good luck deltaE is under 1...

Direct from the Gulf Oil Corporate standards guide for use of their logo:

The four-color Gulf logo should be reproduced as Process Blue — 100C, 45M, 0Y,18K, and Process Orange — 0C, 60M, 100Y, 0K.
The two-color Gulf logo should be produced as Pantone Blue — PMS 301 and Pantone Orange —PMS 165.

Cheers,

Note on the Gulf colors are they for the Corporate logo from Gulf International? Those are not the car colors as I recall. The blue is not the same, not sure about the orange. You can also find it as it was a production color on porsche 911's in the era, I think it was the same and should still be in the paint books.

You are correct Sandy. Those are the colors for the Gulf logo itself. I think the orange is the same on the cars, but the cars are "pale blue and orange" (Gulf reference, not mine). The only only other reference I can find (but can't verify) is Pantone 290C for the pale blue body color.
