GT40 MK1 Rear Taillights

I am looking for MK1 rear taillights.

I did a quick search for 5-1/2” taillights and didn’t find anything acceptable.

I see that originals can be had for starting at $800 on eBay, but that seems risky.

I think the ones that come from RCR are trailer lights. Using them will require some modification because the bucket is too deep. They are also missing the chrome bezel.

Maybe someone has dimensions for the Marchal lenses and bezel. Thinking I might be able to print the lenses and mill the bezels from billet.

I have a set of the Fiat 750 or 850 ones in a box somewhere. They are considerably lighter than the Mercury ones used on the prototypes.
I ended up getting some rather generic bulb holders and using an o-ring to take up the slack. The holders and the backing plate are metal and form the negative return. You should just be able to run a round lug onto the back of the bolt that you use to secure them to the body thus completing the circuit. You will have to connect this lug back to earth.

I have a dual filament bulb holder on the brake/taillight and a single filament orange bulb and holder on the indicator.

I thought I had posted some photos that showed how it was done, but I cant remember which thread they are in, or if they were lost to time via photo bucket.

found it.

Hi Ryan, please can you let me know where you bought the filament holders and grommets? Many thanks, Adrian

I just bought the holders over the counter at my local auto parts store (Repco here in Australia). They were fairly generic things that take your typical automotive taillight and indicator bulbs.
The gromets/o rings are just out of a multi pack that had sizes in 1mm increments. Again, nothing fancy
My detached garage is currently undergoing a rebuild and has been demolished. So, everything it offsite in storage at the moment and i would not have a clue which box the stuff is in at the moment.

Many thanks Ryan, I have found the items and am carrying out the mods at the moment. Good luck with the garage and hope the GT40 enjoys its new home! Kind regards, Adrian
