Now it's Renault as well !!!!From F1 news:

More detail about the possible new espionage scandal involving Renault has now emerged.
It was earlier reported that McLaren, facing the World Motor Sport Council on Thursday accused of using confidential Ferrari information, might be in possession of evidence that could incriminate Renault of a separate spying offence.
The FIA even confirmed that lawyers for the Woking based team had tried to draw Renault into the affair by recently raising "certain matters regarding Renault F1".
The Swiss newspaper Blick said the case centred around the departure of an engineer to Renault, who allegedly took with him three disks of detailed information about McLaren's cooling and electronic systems.
Salzburger Nachrichten has now named the defector as former McLaren design engineer Phil Mackereth.
The Austrian newspaper also said Ron Dennis obtained in Monza from Flavio Briatore "a written confession" that this year's Renault R27 incorporates unauthorised intellectual property belonging to McLaren.
It is not known why Briatore would sign such a document, but it is believed that Dennis wanted to present it as evidence at the World Council meeting on Thursday but was prevented from doing so.
The rumour would, however, explain Briatore's visits to the McLaren motor home at Monza a week ago, and possibly also his subsequent 60-minute meeting with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

NOTE:
For monza GP where our carabinieri gave to Ron Dennis the "avviso di garanzia" also 2 of our ministers moved to monza track.
Many of u (also my friend David M. ) are ex pilots, so will be cool to know those 2 fellows move from Rome to Milano with the italian "politic planes" that cost us 250.000 dollars A DAY!.
Both the ministers used ONE airplane each (Airbus A300),for more or less 10 people (own family).
One of this fellow is our minister of justice.

This is Italy

From BBC News

McLaren received a systematic flow of information from a spy within rivals Ferrari for nearly three months this year, the FIA has revealed. Drivers Fernando Alonso and Pedro de la Rosa were aware of the information.
It was the possession of this "highly sensitive" data that led the FIA to fine McLaren £49.2m and deduct their constructors' championship points.
The information came to McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan from Ferrari chief mechanic Nigel Stepney.

The data McLaren received over the three-month period concerned the Ferrari car's brakes, weight distribution and aerodynamic balance tyre inflation.
In a 16-page document, the FIA said e-mails showed that test driver De la Rosa and reigning world champion Alonso had been aware of the Ferrari data.

"The emails show unequivocally that both Mr Alonso and Mr de la Rosa received confidential Ferrari information via Mike Coughlan."

"Both drivers knew that this information was confidential Ferrari information and that both knew that the information was being received by Coughlan from Nigel Stepney," the report states.

In what is being viewed as the most damning section of the report, the FIA has published an e-mail exchange between De la Rosa and Alonso.
"All the information from Ferrari is very reliable," De la Rosa wrote to Alonso on 25 March in an exchange about the Ferrari's weight distribution.
"It comes from Nigel Stepney, their former chief mechanic - I don't know what post he holds now.

"He's the same person who told us in Australia that Kimi (Raikkonen) was stopping in lap 18. He's very friendly with Mike Coughlan, our chief designer and he told him that."

McLaren has refused to comment on the FIA's revelations, published on the eve of the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa.

The extent of the information Coughlan received about the Ferrari goes far beyond what was revealed at a first meeting of the FIA's world motorsport council in July.

At that time, the FIA decided not to punish McLaren because there was no proof the information had been used "in such a way as to interfere with the running of the FIA F1 world championship".
But the new evidence persuaded the world council to change its verdict at Thursday's meeting.

De la Rosa revealed plans to test Ferrari's weight distribution in McLaren's simulator, plans that were later abandoned.

It was revealed that Alonso agreed it was "very important" that McLaren tried out the gas Ferrari were using to inflate their car's tyres.

It also emerged that De la Rosa had asked Coughlan for specific details of Ferrari's braking system, and that the designer revealed to the test driver "we are looking at something similar".

The document appears to explode the view that this was only a case of two rogue employees using the information to find better jobs at other teams, and that the confidential information had not been circulated within McLaren, as the team contended at the first world council meeting.
The world council said it had decided to inflict such a heavy punishment on McLaren because "there was an intention on the part of a number of McLaren personnel to use some of the Ferrari confidential information in its own testing".

It added: "The evidence leads the WMSC to conclude that some degree of sporting advantage was obtained, though it may forever be impossible to quantify that advantage in concrete terms."
Alonso and team-mate Lewis Hamilton were not punished in the drivers' championship because "primary responsibility lies with McLaren, and also because McLaren's drivers were offered individual sanction".

OK so now I am really confused... the way I am reading this the FIA have evidence that directly implicates Alonso and yet they choose not to take his points away? Saying the responsibility lies with McLaren is a load of bull; in atheletics if they get caught cheating (OK I nkow its slightly different) they get banned for 2 years and are never allowed to compete in the Olympics (under UK rules) etc etc.

So my question is: What kind of attitude and model does this promote for aspiring sportsmen and women?

Brett,
This should not and cannot be confused with anything sporting.
OK - They have neck muscles like gorillas but they are not sportsmen.
Don't get confused any more.

But wasn't it a Ferrari employee who approached a MaClaren one. Now if somebody came to you with a potential 'edge' are the FIA saying you should say

'Oh i say chap, thats a little dishonest and i really don't care to look at the information, even it it may help me....in fact i think i will tell everyone what a bounder you are!!!!'

Shouldn't it be 'all's fair in love and war' and Ferrari should've looked after their employees better so they didn't sell secrets.

It's either sport or entertainment, a sport can be entertaining (drop goal to win worldcup) but is entertainment sporting (Wrestling!!!!)??????

If he is at all honest with himself, he has to look in the mirror and realize that she is only with him for the money. IOW, a whore.

Only I hope they will not also ruin the legendary name of McLaren, for me always the legend kiwi BRUCE.

As I understand it, Alonso tried to blackmail Ron with the emails that had been exchanged between De La Rosa and Alonso which openly discussed Ferrari tech used on the McLarens (which was in any case offered to Honda as an inducement for employment) unless Alonso was treated as No.1 in the team leaving Ron with no choice but to inform the FIA himself that this evidence existed and thereby scoring an own goal leading to his £50m fine, rather than allowing Alonso present the evidence and thus embarassing Ron. In the meantime, Lewis "The Snitch" Hamilton, having been given immunity in exchange for his evidence had none to offer anyway - as if Alsonso and De La Rosa would have shared anything with this upstart including the team toilet.

In the meantime Max publicly calls Ron Dennis , a "friend" for many years, a liar, and Ron sobs on public TV and declares himself to be a man of integrity.

Have I got this right?

And all is well in the Mclaren tent?

I suppose it all begins when you start believing your own publicity and that F1 actually contributes anything positive...

What shall we call this debacle, Rongate?

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Ferarri are probably within their rights to make a stink about this, and I would think there's far more to it than has been aired up till now.

i remember a computer game back in the early 90s. It was a an F1 Team Manager Simulator. you sorted race plans and pitstops etc, you also had to manage you budget and one of the focuses you had to spend money on was Espionage.... Its been around, it will continue to be around and carry on (probably explains why the cars all look the same to me) just don't get caught...

I am beginning to feel a bit sorry for Ron. Those of us in management or have been in management know that we are not always aware of what our subordinates are up to. Also he did pass on the info re emails between De la Rosa and Alonso to the FIA himself. The reaction of the FIA and Ferrari seems a bit over the top, especially when it is generally agreed that this sort of thing is going on all the time.

Boring race today. Pity the first lap wasn't repeated throughout the race.

Chris.

PS When a number of Benneton staff transferred to Ferrari in the early Schumacher days, presumably they didn't leave all their knowledge behind.
