Engine in…..new problems.

Pat - the Gelscoe bracket puts the centerline of the alternator belt at approximately 5.5" outward from the face of the head. That aligns perfectly with the Ford shorty water pump and CVF pulley. I guess you could put spacers behind it but there is no point to doing that since the entire reason for using it is to provide a compact, low, closely mounted alternator. Also, the lower tensioner bracket has to mount to the lower timing chain cover bolt and I am not sure I see a way to put spacers there. I think your entire conflict is the balancer which establishes all other dimensions for the front of the motor. I studied this in great length before selecting the parts I did for this very reason.

I would -
Remove the harmonic balancer bolt and see how far down the balancer hub the crank snout is. It’s likely pretty deep.
Pull that balancer and mic the distance from the crank’s timing chain sprocket to the end of the crank snout.
Mic the hub of the balancer.
Do the math..
That balancer needs to be tight up against that crank sprocket or you’re going to have more problems than belt alignment.

When I spoke to prestige today they stated the balancer I have now lines up for a shorty water pump. In fact they advised going with the shorty water pump over an electric water pump. If that’s true then the Glescoe bracket should line up perfectly???

Short water pump, yes !
Ford made a million different pully offsets for the crank and the water pump.
The bottom pully is way to far out, I'm a little surprised Prestige did this !!

Is this what you have? Did it come with the engine, and is the flywheel also a neutral-balanced flywheel? Did the engine builder supply the damper and flywheel and balance the rotating assembly together?

Yes, all built and supplied by Prestige.

The worst part is they knew it was for an RCR gt40 and after calling them they still said it’s the shortest damper I could put on it. It just confuses me more.

Okay pulled the engine back out today and will get to pulling the harmonic balancer off and see why it’s so far out. I see others that responded to this are using shorty water pumps. I thought shorty water pumps wouldn’t fit in the 40? If they fit I would rather use one than the electrical water pump. Is there a certain model that works? Has to be tight between the pulley stick out and the hose hookup so I’d like to try this now that I have everything out. Appreciate the help again!!!

Pat - here is the water pump. Ford Motorsports. https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-8501-E351S. The pump inlet clears the crank pulley assuming you use the correct part and it is spaced to align with the correct crank pulley. I know you have read the ERA assembly manual. Read the entire section they devote to the use of the shorty WP. You will have to solve the crank balancer in order for this to align. Hope it helps.
