What a bitter disappointment! The very brief
appearance of Mark Sibley's GT40 can't even be described as a cameo! I was hoping for a
chase scene involving 007, in the GT40, and
the villain in something else appropriate,
but no, Bond drove his usual Aston Martin,
albeit a nice one.
The film was a bit "over the top", even for
a Bond flick. One thumb up, one thumb down! (

I agree entirely. The GT40 must have appeared for a maximum of 5 seconds total. In one shot it had no bullet holes & then in the next cut it had bullet holes all over it... didn't even see the damage take place.

A pretty average movie.. too far from reality for my liking. the invisible car trick was a joke. Still worth a watch tho!

Aw, come on. That was a pretty typical James Bond movie. I'd would rate it 3 stars out of 4. All Bond flicks are over the top. I wouldn't pay to see it again but I would watch it again. There is so much going on I'd have to see it again in order to take it all in. Yes, I agree, I thought they were going to do something more with the GT40. Of course I don't think the roads in North Korea are the best suited for racing a GT40 around. Like one is really going to see GT40 in North Korea to begin with. I also thought they were going show more of the T-Bird in the move too, but you can't have everything. I also liked the last scene with Money Penny. I laughed my head off on that one.

I know we'd all love to see bond in a GT40, a big chase etc. Not quite a car that most of the general public would associate as a traditional "British" car though.

According to an article in Car magazine in the UK, the Aston's all had their engines swapped out in place of race tuned Ford 302s. I haven't seen the film yet - did they sound like the good old Ford small blocks?

 

I heard the Vanquish look alikes were fitted with Jag V8's, the reason being their relative compactness to allow fitting of 4 wheel drive, guns, rockets, etc.

Ford's Premier Automotive Group no doubt paid a lot of money for their cars to be featured. I guess we will have to wait a few more years until a Ford GT is properly featured in a James Bond movie. It certainly would be a suitable car for Mr Bond to drive.

If Bond James Bond were to drive a new Ford GT, it would have to be stock; no missles, toys, remote control, etc.

Q was originally ONLY involved in modifying British cars for use by the famous spy. When the BMW showed up, there was a HUGE backlash. I don't believe that Broccoli will make the mistake of using a non-British car as the primary conveyance of Bond James Bond.

That's not to say that 007 won't drive a GT at some point in the future; he's 'borrowed' everything from a Citroen 2CV to an AMC Hornet to wreak automotive mayhem on the bad guys!

The Jag and Aston were both featured on Top Gear a couple of weeks back. According to Clarkson both cars were fitted with Ford V8s to allow room for the rocket launchers behind the grilles.

 

Lee That is correct. The guy who is responsible for msot of the vehicles told me that when my car went up for filming. I havent yet seen the film, but i have been told that the appearance is brief. A bit dissapointing. I saw more of it on the trailers!! But the trailers are sometimes put out before the final cutting scenes are agreed. I was offered some of the Ford V8 out of the cars back in January. But nothing came of it, I think all the crew made cobras with them!!

I would have prefered to go up for the filming at least i could have taken my own video footage for my own collection. Well I am a bit of a fan. It has done well at the box office here, It has been so full, I couldnt get in!! Might see it this weekend. When i get settled here, i will take some better photos and post them (with help) and all can see a truly holy GT!!

I saw the movie over the weekend. The thought that crossed my mind is that here is a timeless, classic race car that is almost 40 years old that is still "better looking" than a lot of the new stuff. It evokes the same emotions when I see a WWII P51 Mustang.
