I did delete some messages off of this thread that were relative to a Vendor/Customer dispute. After which I found out that the Vendor in question is not a Vendor here in any status (which will be addressed separately)... Regardless of Vendor Status - Posts like these are not topical to Build Logs and the matter needs to be resolved off the public forum in whatever manner they chose..

No more discussion of this here. You may both PM myself and/or Ron if you choose. I would prefer that you just take care of the matter on your own and between you two.

Back up to the shop tomorrow, with any luck, to try to complete one side of the seat webbing. I think I can get the passenger's seat finished. If I do, I will post photos of the completed work. It is supposed to be high fifties here tomorrow; I am itching to DRIVE this car and get acquainted with what it can do....

So I got one side of the car done- the webbing is all in. This is to say the least a tedious job. It does look pretty good. Just to compare, while I was doing that, Ron took most of the suspension out of a new Camaro and installed lowering springs, a shock tower brace, new sway bars front and rear, and some kind of frame that stabilizes the rear subframe relative to the unibody. He started before I did, and finished about the same time.

So you can tell who the professional is.... however I am getting quicker at it, and I think I can do the driver's side in less time, if it is me that does it. I am working most of the week, and Ron is going racing, so it may not get done for a while..

New emergency brake cable came today, and looks like it will do fine. And we are almost done with all the metal pieces from John, just some final fitting and painting to do. And at that point, we can throw all the foam back in, or some of it, since there isn't any upholstery yet, and get a second test drive in....

No pictures today since I forgot to bring the camera, but maybe later in the week if I am able to get back up there.

It really is good advice, but the area work in isn't the best, and I worry about someone decided to break into my truck and pinch it. However, I am duly advised and promise to do better. And maybe I can get Ron to post a photo of the side of the car in which the webbing is completed.

I am tempted to post something about how beautiful it looks, but I'll leave that to the rest of you all... the best thing about looking at that photo is knowing that the webbing is half finished. What you see there took about ten hours, but I think the next one will take less time. And hopefully look even better. AND be good to sit on, since I have to sit on the driver's side....

The learning curve getting a bit quicker, I got the driver's side webbing almost done today- one rivet popped loose and I will have to replace it, fortunately on the front crossways web, so we don't have to take the whole trampoline out again. Nice fit, not too shabby. It needs to be stretched rather tight to give any support, especially if the car owner weighs too much and ought to be on a diet...

Ron also got the windscreen squirters mounted- there isn't a lot of room next to the wiper shaft, but he was able to get them in. This is the same as the 1966 car we took photos of. Horns also mounted, and the dashboard is back in with everything working, no battery drains, etc. All squared away. Any suggestions for OEM-appearing hose for the eyeball vents? I think it needs to be about three inches ID, something of cloth with a wire helix which would look correct- or, even better, the proper material, if it still exists and isn't woven of unobtainium fibers.

Front tires are too damn small, I will order another set. My mistake, not the first or the last.

Possibly another test drive next week.. I have temporary road coverage back on the car, so we could do it if the weather gods smile on us. if so, photos to follow....

What were the front tires and what size tires did you end up ordering Jim?

I just went through that with mine and took off 205-60-15 and installed 235-50-15.. Those were about as large as I could get that would still fit...

225/50-15, Ron says. I agree, the ones on there look too small- I think they are 215 or 205, I need to take them off and put larger ones on. any bigger than 225/50 and they will probably rub again.

I just went back and looked again as something didn't sit right with me... The tires I installed were 225-50-15.. They are the widest that will work with my suspension geometry and body configuration without alteration..

Sounds about the same situation I am in....when I got the car from Safir, it had Radial TAs on it which were far too big, they rubbed the glass of the front bodywork all over the place. I don't know why they had me send them that size tire. the rears were better (after Ron found the tires rubbing the ductwork inside the rear bodywork etc etc. I went too far when I ordered the current front tires- too far in the other direction- they won't rub anything but they aren't tall enough and don't fill up the wheel opening enough to look good. The ideal tire would be a 225/55-15, which no one makes as far as I can tell. Close is a 225/50-15, which is more than likely what I will end up ordering. I could send the current ones back to TR and get a refund as they have not been driven on, just rolled around the garage, but we have a road test on for tomorrow, and I don't want to put it off, so when the time comes I will order some new ones and the current 215/50-15s will end up on something else. Maybe even one of my cars, who knows.....

If all goes well, another road trial tomorrow, and hopefully more mileage than the first one where we just went up the road and back. This is to see how all the gauges work, whether she will stay cool (temps in the high forties tomorrow, and worry about the oil leak at the back of the engine. If everything goes okay, I may try to drive a bit further tomorrow and see how she does with it. Wish us luck...

Go Jimbo, break a leg! Old British theatrical mantra. I have no idea why such things come to pass, only to know that it's considered to wish anyone **** **** before going on stage (hence break a leg) extremely bad luck as is referring to 'The Scottish Play' by it's proper title...

No legs broken, at least. We spent an hour or so driving the car, including resetting the ride height as it is too low; the springs are softer than we thought and the car rides too close to the road. Tire size is fine, and brakes, clutch and steering work perfectly; also all the electricals are fine. The seating seems fine, although we used the foam blocks on top of the webbing, which take up a lot of the height in the car; the actual seats will allow more headroom. That is still some time off.

the engine is very flat below about 3000 revs; hardly any throttle response at all, very balky. This set of Webers worked fine on Chuck's RCR car, so clearly there is enough difference between my engine and theirs that it will require some changes to the carburetors- jets, emulsion tubes, or whatever. So that is next on the agenda.

I did not drive it very fast- not above about forty. Ron, who has more experience than I do, went faster. Driving a right-hand drive car is interesting to say the least- you think you are in the right place and then your passenger tells you to move over to the right, you are on the centerlines again. It's going to take some getting used to...

Photos to follow.. I did take some, showing the rear window in, and a few running shots as Ron brought the car back to his garage. I will try to get them up later today. As far as looks goes, the car is essentially complete, from the outside. The details such as mirrors, Dzus fasteners with flags etc, all look great. The photos show that the front tires are too small; replacements to be ordered shortly.

So we are getting there; not there yet, but progress made and things moving along. Getting the Webers sorted out will be a big step forward.
