Superlite GTA

Fran,
While I am very confident in my mechanical abilities, I have never built a kit car. You make reference to RCR doing donor cabin prep on cars that you provide or approve. That would be an option for people that live in the general area. I live around San Antonio, TX, so shipping an RCR prepped/approved car would be a fairly expensive option.

Would you provide guidance in the required cabin prep procedures so that the uninitiated kit car builder won't flounder too much on his own donor car? Or, is this just something that every kit car builder will have to figure out on their own?

For Ben Whittle: I live at Canyon Lake. Would you be able to meet with me in SA for a face-2-face?

Pat

The GTA is aimed at being an easy build , I want to try to bring some fresh customer blood to the industry....less expensive and less time consuming to build....I think we may be losing out on some of the younger crowd too.
These guys know all about the "tuner" style cars and having a 400hp plus 4 cylinder is right up their alley...
Having everyday usability is also important to me in the GTA as some guys only have the funds to run one car...

Now I understand what market segment you were shooting for w/GTA.

thx.

I am not talking teenagers here...I am talking about the mid to late 20's guys...first big project kind of customer.

Grown up in the tuner era but want something a little sophisticated looking but within their tuning comfort zone..

Exciting, really can't wait...

So for the 6 cylinder setup, which engine choice are you putting into consideration? 6G72? 6G74/75? Would there be enough space for twin turbos? Also would a 4 cylinder be optimal design for the car instead of 6 cylinder? Like weight distribution, rear suspension setup, and such?

I got my extra parts taken out and ready to be built, for both 4G63T and 6G72TT :D I can go for either. Just can't say this enough, I can't wait, my hands are really itchy.

"Tuner" is definitely not equal to teenagers. I remembered when I started to mod Mitsubishi more then 10 years ago, I was doing with a bunch of older and very knowledgeable people. We do call ourselves tuners because you literally have to "tune" the car to squeeze out every last drop of the performance out. And technologies have come a long way, now there are softwares and better electronics to easily and safer to push the engine even further.

It's true though, now every young kid on the block or even people who has no clue about cars like to be called tuners because it's "cool". These people really gave a bad name to the rest of us who really do this as a hobby or passion. I hate the people who made the "fast and furious" series or "initial D", that's the culprit for making all of us look bad.

Like me ;)

HEY! 30 is still a 'late' 20 right?! :D

First 'kit' car, need something practical, have no experience, 'late' 20's, need a daily driver.

But Fran you're going to need to provide me with more before I commit :P

For now I'm going to have to settle for a 1999 MX5 for a while at least...

Pat, I'm more than happy to meet up but as of now I don't have any RCR products (yet). You're actually near where I'm looking at some land on the Smithson Valley Road... I work down the 35 off of Walzem Road at Rackspace.

Yes, the expert tuner - but not fabricator - formerly restricted to rice-burners. Younger than old fart, but older than Justin Bieber. They now have next step - an intro kit car with a familiar power package, nice interior and compact overall package.

Totally ignored market segment until GTA.

Fran, will this car be able to handle a 19x14" 29" tall rear tire? Just wondering if we'll be able to have some massive rear meats as that is what really gets me going on one of these things.

That is the same size I had on the K3 345/35/19 Pirelli Corsa R Comp - would look hot on this car.

New member here. I must say, this new concept has peaked my interest. I have been contemplating building SL-C, but with the price tag, I am a few years out. This may be my ticket to start building another car much sooner. (I have built an FFR Roadster)

I cannot wait to see how this car evolves and I look forward to more updates. Thanks Fran!!

Not in the configuration I will be supplying ....but you custom boys like to cut everything up and make it "better".....smile.

WUT?? Why are you lookin' at me?? Looks like the Reaper is another 'plastic' surgeon :knife:

When I was a kid some local guy had modded his 930 to be all Kremer looking with the AIR body kit. Had the massive (were they 21 Dia? x 14.5?) rear wheels with a racing rain tire on it to make it 'street' drivable. That was not the start of my big tire obsession (I was already infected) but it sure was a 'positive' influence :)
