    RCR40 Transaxle Mounting Bushings

Thx much. Unfortunately, the largest OD McMaster/Carr have is too big and the next size smaller is too small. I wonder what others have been using. My guess is that RCR turned the ones shown in the online manual. I see a lathe in my future :)

    RCR40 Transaxle Mounting Bushings

Hoping someone has a source for the pictured bushings. I searched McMasters Carr, but not sure what they are called. Thx in advance.

    Streetable Eight Stack

I am just trying to imagine what it’s going to be like to drive a 2,000 pound car with over 700 HP. It’s going to be exciting for sure.

    Streetable Eight Stack

Brian, That is an awesome looking induction system. Is your Lola build inspired by any of the Can Am cars or are you doing a Kissel interpretation? I am still trying to decide. Leaning towards the Borla 8-Stack from Prestige because it looks period correct. Cheers, Randy

    GT40 Build Status

For sure RCR is just as interested in shipping your car as you are, if not more so. The cars take up valuable space and tie up funds that could be used for something else. My understanding is they are incredibly busy with many cars in the almost ready to ship state and are probably prioritizing...

    Engine Mounts

Agree. Since I bought the Prothanes on Amazon I can return them easily. I just wanted make sure there were no horror stories about Energy Suspension.

    Randy's RCR40 MKI

I spent the past few days deburring the tub and the many aluminum pieces. It took a more time than it should have because I pretty much polished the edges. A complete waste of time, but I couldn’t resist using my newly acquired pneumatic die grinder to it’s fullest extent and I just really like...

    Engine Mounts

I have two sets of SBF engine mounts. One set is from Prothan (same as Sean’s above except they are red and silver), the other (black and gold) is from Energy Suspension. Fitment is identical. I can return the Prothans so wondering if I should. Thx in advance. Cheers, Randy

Thx much. This are good tutorials.

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

Randy, Thx much. Given the heat sink mass of the chassis, preheating to 200F makes sense. These welds are only going to be tack welds and the patch is not structural so all I need is a little penetration to hold the plug and allow for grinding the tacks flush with chassis. I am going to get a...

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

Thx for the concern. I will practice on some scrap 3/16 plate with 1/2” plugs and will use a series of tack welds so plenty of time for cooling.

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

Dave, I do, and I am sure he would be happy to, but then I wouldn’t have an excuse to buy a welder and learn how to use it :) Cheers, Randy

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

Bill, thx for the guidance. To avoid heat build up, I plan on doing a series of tack welds and the welds don’t need much penetration since the patch is cosmetic. Cheers, Randy

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

I am planning to MIG with the spool gun. An AC welder is out of my price range. I did find this about TIG welding aluminum with DC, but that level of expertise is way out of my league. https://forum.weldingtipsandtricks.com/viewtopic.php?t=2002

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

Bill, I might order some of their liquid aluminum just to have it available. Certainly can use it if my attempts to weld fail. I wonder if it can be used with Carbon Fiber or Kevlar to make parts such as brackets. It says that it has low viscosity so it might be able to soak into the fibers...

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

EXACTLY! I ended up buying this one from Northern Tool. It was listed at $1,000 but is on sale and I got an open box discount and 10% military discount so only paid $494. It includes a spool gun, MIG & TIG torches, stick holder, foot pedal, and gas regulator.

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

Randy, I went to a metal supplier today and picked up a few pounds of aluminum cut offs of various thickness. However, I figure that as long as I don’t blow holes in the surrounding structure, I can always resort to your suggestion of using a threaded plug and epoxy putty. Cheers, Randy

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

Yes, just appearance. There is no structural compromise. It’s a great way to spend time working on the car without making any progress :) It’s all about the challenge and an excuse to learn new skills. And I should mention all the great feedback and conversation.

Patching unused bolt holes in Aluminum

I priced the cost of rivets, rivet air hammer, and rivet buck. It seems like a bit too much for a solution that would only be occasionally used. The welder cost is higher, but has the potential to be extremely useful.
