Tire/Tyres for SLC

What tire sizes and brands are people running on their SLC’s?
I understand the preferred size is 275/35/18 and 325/30/19.

For some strange reason both my front & rear tires are NOT the specified size. I currently have 265/35/18 front and 345/30/19 rear…wearing Kumho Ecsta xs.
I will be running these tires on the racetrack on 24 February when the SLC is being filmed for a TV show called Car Torque and then again on 16 March at another track.
This will be my first time on the track with the SLC. I’m not really concerned about the current tire brand and size as I just want to start exploring the SLC’s handling.

The car is mainly road driven but will see 3 to 4 track days over the next year and depending on this it may see more.
Unfortunately in Aust I’m finding in difficult to get many options for tires.

The only tires I’ve found so far (locally stocked) are Nitto Invos which I can get in all the sizes mentioned above. I would like Michelin Pilot Sport Cup but I’m yet to find them.
Anyone running Nitto Invos on their SLC? Comments?

Most of the SLCs I have seen are running Nitto Invos, as is mine. It's a very popular tire on the Corvette forums.

It's a great street tire, but of course not really a track tire. Hoosier makes a great track tire- are they available in Oz?

When my Invos are burned off, I was planning to get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. I recently saw a set on a new Z06 and they looked a lot like the Hoosiers- almost no tread, and very soft.

Primary reason for running Nitto Invos is they are available in the sizes specified by RCR. I'd much rather have Kumhos. If the Kumhos fit and aren't causing any rubbing issues, stay with them.

I'm using the same as what Fran had on the orange SLC "shop" car. Bridgestone Potenza RE 050A pole position. These are run flat tires though. I'm using a tire pressure monitor system. These are more expensive then the Nitto but less than the Michelin.

The Z06 Corvette owners hate the Goodyear tires that were factory installed. Short life span, loud tread noise and crappy handling after a year or two.

It may not be much help to you, but I'll be using Continental DW tires. Its a max performance summer tire (a notch below Extreme Performance) but like you I'm not concerned initially about all out grip. Once I decide ultimate grip is what I want, then a 2nd set of track wheels & tires will be on order. A friend used the DW's on his STS-V for track days, and as you might imagine they didn't hold up well due to heat buildup. But he works for Conti, and is giving me his employee discount. So its worth a shot to see how well they hold up, and the correct sizes are available (I'm getting 19" front and rear).

The Toyo R888 is available in 275/35-18 and 325/30-19. They aren't as sticky as the Hoosiers but they're more streetable than the Hoosiers. They also have more grip than extreme performance tires such as the Kumho Ecsta XS.

PeteB. The Kumho’s were rubbing. I had suspension engineers set the car up before I took it to the track for the first time and it didn’t rub during its first outing.

Thanks for all the other feedback guys. I’ve put a stop on looking around for tires, for now, as the oversized 345’s didn’t rub on the track.
