Can somebody educate me on the design of the rear clamshell support? I can see that the weight of the rear of the clamshell is supported via the two parrot‘s beak brackets and the framework of the chassis, but where is the weight from the forward portion supposed to rest? Is it supposed to be just supported by the weatherstripping/ bodywork that goes all the way across the front/top of the clamshell? In which case, I must need some thicker weatherstripping. Or is the weight supposed to be carried by the locator pins where the clamshell meets the rocker panel area, forward of the rear wheels (by the latches)? I recently noticed the paint was being chafed at the mating surfaces of the clamshell and the rocker panel, and I’m not sure what to adjust, to open up that gap. I tried to raise the rear of the clamshell up by loosening the 5 parrots beak bolts on each side but there wasn’t much adjustment to be gained there. And the single, central top support (behind the cockpit roof section) doesn’t seem correct for supporting all of that weight, since the fiberglass clamshell doesn‘t seem sturdy enough there for that purpose.
To further complicate things, fitment between these panels on mine is less than ideal to begin with, since (I’m told) my rear clamshell is from a real MKII GT40, mated to a Superformance GT40 body.
Any advice is appreciated!
