Passenger Door alignment/latching

I had my SPF GT40 in a parade yesterday. No hands touched it, except mine. The passenger door now is misaligned. I loosened most of the hinge nuts, and I can get the door to close but it won’t latch. How do the latches work? Clearly there is a spring, the outside handle and inside cable pull something but I can’t for the life of me figure out what the mechanism is, and/or how it works. Many thanks in advance. Attached pic of door closed but not latched.

You can access the inner part of the latch by removing the black door 'pocket' assembly. That may help to see the problem.

I’m a dunce! The cable inside the door was getting snagged/hung up. It wasn’t allowing the latch to pivot into the locked position. At first I couldn’t figure out how the latch even worked. Once I adjusted the cabk inside the door by pushing the cable and insulation toward the door latch, it worked like a charm. No tools necessary, just using 1/4 of my brain.

The latch mechanisms are a commom problem and malfuntion described by Andy. When the latch gets held up in the first postion only, it will make the door "jump up" and feel like a misalignment for sure. The other is when the interal mechanism has a drag on it to return rapidly and smoothly which creates that "door won't latch" thing when trying to close it. Both of these are remedied by fine filing all friction edges thoughout the mechanism, good spring return tension and keep all moving parts throughout the door mechanisms well lubricated with lithium grease.
