In case this has not been discussed: the drawings illustrating the Mocal oil cooler thermostat (copy attached) may not agree with what you have in hand: I have two of them (for which I checked) and the bolt heads on mine are at the ``large spring port" and not -as shown in the installation instructions - at the ``rod port".
So, an external check only may cause you to install it improperly - resulting in low or no oil pressure! Make sure to look through the port openings to identify supply (big spring) and return (small rod) ports correctly.
