Interesting Latch

Found this interesting latch on an original rear clip.
Anyone know what it may have been used for ?

I would say that could be for a quick disconnect of the strap that prevents the clamshell from opening too far.

Unclip that and then it should be a simple case of lifting it off the rear bobbins assuming you have disconnected the wiring plug as well.

On my car, it's a leather strap with a brass clip on one end to disconnect.

Could it be a bracket someone added for a rod to keep the tail from slamming shut in a high wind? (always a worry when showing the car).
