Tornado Build - www.gt40builder.com

Hi Trev,

What thickness did you have the oblong caps made from? I've pressed the make button on a batch and should have them on wednesday.

Hi all

Being working on my template for the rear window. I am trying to achieve a more 'original' look. I know it won't be 100% the correct shape but working with the sizes from the Tornado window this is my template so far.

Here is the original tornado window shape

Waiting for some feedback at the moment as to whether this looks ok before I start chopping the rear bulkhead :)

What does everyone think?

You would be better waiting until the rear body section is fitted to make sure the window shape lines up with the hole in the rear body section. A curved top line will not be correct. You would be better to use the top line as on the window blank.

Thanks

Thanks Andy

Do you mean something like this?

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback. I've made a new template that uses the same top line as the standard tornado window. What do you think, is this better?

Agreed Andy. I received another template from Paul W, which was more or less identical to yours so I'll make the top flat and match the height of the templates with both your templates.

Thanks for you continued help

Hi all

I finally finished my rear window template and attached it to the rear bulkhead to see how it looked. However after a phone call with Andy Sheldon we've decided that to ensure the window is 100% accurate that I should leave the window until the body is fitted.

So next job on the list is to strip all the panels off the car including the bulkhead and send to be powder coated. While the panels are off the car I am going to give the chassis the once over and touch up any scuffs and scratches that were caused while fitting the aluminium panels. Then when the panels get back it will be time to finally start rivetting some panels onto the car and start work on the steering and suspension.

Feels nice to be moving along again in the build as the issue with the rear window has been causing me a headache.

Started stripping the protective coating off the panels tonight and tidying up all the drill holes and smoothing any rough edges. I also wanted to see what the panels would look like with the polished aluminium finish before they are powder coated. The do look nice now but I think it would be hard to keep them looking like this.

Trev, Looks nice polished but you won't be able to keep it that way for very long. Powdercoat would be my choice. IMO, of course..

More progress, second wheel arch stripped and tidyed along with rear sill panels. Just have the rear bulkhead left to do.

Bloody freezing in the garage today as it's -2ºc outside and my little radiator isn't helping much.

Managed to finish stripping all the panels and deburr them and finished the footwell top access panel too. Sending a couple of small panels to the powder coaters tomorrow as a test just in case I am not happy with the job they do.

Trevor,
rivnuts can be fitted before powder-coating as the electro static field is not generated within a small hole, so the powder will not adhere
