Hey Guys:
Sorry for the delay in updating you all on the GT40R, but this has been a very hectic period for us. We've completed the final engineering and the first cars are being prepared for shipping. We're very excited that our first two cars are scheduled to arrive at Olthoff Racing by mid-May. One will be our demo car, while the other GT40R is going to our first customer in California. (For basic information on the GT40R, please see our first post: www.gt40s.com/forum/superformance-gt40s/27521-new-superformance-model-gt40r-competition.html)
There are a number of items to update you on. First, we will have the GT40R Prototype at HSR's 'The Mitty' historic races at Road Atlanta April 30, May 1 and 2. Please drop by and see us! We'll be at most HSR events this Summer in the event you miss us at The Mitty. By the way, HSR hosted a charity auction on April 19 during which a hot laps in the GT40R – driven by none other than Derek Bell (five-time Le Mans winner) – brought in a high bid of $27,000!
In a couple of months you'll see the roll-out of the first GT40R at the Kohler International GT40 Reunion at Road America. At the most recent Brian Redman 'Targa 66' event at Palm Beach International Raceway, Brian was impressed with the GT40R Prototype and expressed a possible interest in driving the GT40R Pathfinder Team Car at Road America – pretty cool!
While at PBIR, we were fortunate enough to have Divina Galica, a former Formula 1 driver and olympic skiing champion from the UK, test drive the GT40R Prototype (Superformance GT40P/2192). Divina was actually driving two GT40's that weekend, the other being a former Holman Moody MkII racer. She was very complimentary and felt that our car was tighter and much faster than the original. Her comments, and those of Brian Redman, helped us to redesign front and rear brake ducting to reduce fade during race conditions. (You can see one of Divina's test runs in our GT40R Prototype on YouTube: YouTube - Ford GT40 Lapping at Palm Beach International Raceway - PBIR (Onboard))
Also, we're excited to announce that Dennis Olthoff will be piloting GT40R P/2090 in the featured GT40 race, competing against a contingent of original MkI's and MkII's. (Remember that the GT40R is even closer to original than the standard Superformance GT40, including right-hand drive and right-hand shift; Weber 48 IDAs on a Holman Moody 302; improved race-grade suspension items and other components; round fog/driving lights; enhanced and original aerodynamic aids; and much more – see photos below, including some of Lee Holman's photos of the first two GT40R 302ci engines and some construction photos of GT40R P/2090.)
Finally, Derek Bell will also be driving the GT40R Pathfinder Team Car this Summer at both Daytona and Sebring at HSR events scheduled for this Summer. More photos and information in the days and weeks to follow.
Thanks!
Alan Petersen
